I've installed MW2 from the Disc (several times... unistall reinstall) and I still can't play it!
Okay, I've purchased the game from Target last night. I got home, and began to install the game. I installed steam, and then installed the game (from the disc). Eventually it finished and the game was installed. Here's the problem.... when I click to play the game, it states MW2 isn't installed and it forces me to install it. MP has a play button, but it doesn't work. The SP only has the install button. I've installed the game. I've deleted the local files, exited steam and reinstalled the game. Same problem, once again. I did this all about four times. I also uninstalled and reinstalled steam several times. After everything, the game won't work. It forces me to download all 11.5GB of the game when I've already installed it... I even checked "Do NOT update this game automatically" and the game still won't work. I took the game back to Target, they wouldn't refund me so they gave me another copy. Now, if I'm stuck with this game which I a payed $20 of my hard earned money with... it damn well should work! What am I doing wrong?
Also, I don't really care about MP... I mainly want to play the SP portion of the game at the moment. Why in the world, does Steam force me to download the whole game all over again when I've already installed it? It's stupid. Infinity Ward really screwed players and buyers alike over when they chose to use Steam for MW2. They should have an option of whether to use Steam or not.

Reset your Steam files. Turn Steam off. Go to your Steam folder.

Delete everything aside from the Steam.exe and steamapps folder. Then run Steam again and see what it does. And MW2 runs fine on Steam.

Hiya mate, thanks for the quick reply! I'm currently installing it again but once it's finished I will do as you said. I'll let you know if it works or not. Cheers mate!

Okay, I've installed the game and did what you said to do... delete everything except for steam.exe and steamapps folder. Sadly, the problem is still present: I'm unable to play MW2... the SP won't start as instead of a Play button, there's only an Install button. The MP has a Play button but when clicked it says starting and then it fails and says Failed to start game with Shared Content. I reckon there's nothing else for me to do, I can't sit around and download an entire 11.5 of a game that I already have installed. Thanks for helping though, I appreciate it mate.

I found out it wasn't really downloading, it was simply checking the files. Thanks again mate, cheers! :3
