I have a black screen when I open the game. there is sound but and short loading but then i doesnt see anything. anyone found a solution?

try to Disable fullscreen optimizations in X:\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2\iw4sp.exe. And do so on iw4mp.exe :)

I found the solution. With task meneger you need to open it in the smallest window and turn of the computer.

two ways to fix either go into the config and manually change the resolution to your monitors res or go under properties, compatibility and enable run in 640 x 480 and then run the game it should work now but make sure to set the correct resolution in game then close the game and disable the 640 x 480 in compatibility before you run it again everything should work as normal now also i know of atleast 8 games that have this black screen issue on startup and this fixes every single one of them for me

Tried to browse for solutions in 2024 when this didn't work - finally fixed mine by changing the config file (steam>steamapps>common>call of duty modern warfare 2>players>config_mp). I had to change 2 lines in the text file using notepad to do so:
seta r_mode "1920x1080"
seta r_displayRefresh "120"
Those were the default settings in the config file, so I had to match them to my monitor I was using. I think that the issue was the display refresh rate was not supported by my monitor. Once I set it to 2560 x 1440 on mode and 144 on refresh then my game started without blacking out my screen (and putting it to energy saving mode). Posting for anyone else in the future!
