Screen Resolution
When I try to set the screen resolution on MW 2 to 1920-1080 from its origin 600 resolution, the game blanks out and crashes and wont let me do anything on my pc. It like becomes invisible or smaller in the background. Does anyone know how to fix this issue ?

Hmmm.. I do know the game does not like to switch some settings on the fly.

If you can't even get into the game and set something before it crashes: You could try just direct editing the config file and setting the video res manually. See if that lets you go from there. I know once the game launches and you've started playing, a lot of settings changes will cause the game to hang. It's best to edit everything from the main menu before you ever start any gameplay.

Path to config files should look something like this:
<path-to-game>\players\config.cfg

Path-to-game is dependent on how you have your Steam installation set up, but mine looks like:

c:\steam\steamapps\common\call of duty...

Right-click on the game, then Manage > Browse Local Files.

Look for the folder called 'players' and then look for the config.cfg file in that folder.

My path looks like this, but yours will be slightly different most likely..
G:\steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2\players then config.cfg is a text file in that folder.

Here's a pic..

Close to the end of that text file (mine's on line 244) is a line that reads:
seta r_mode "3840x2160"

That's where you want to pick something you like.

Notepad is included with all Windows OSes, you could use that.

Right-click the file and you should see an "Open with..." option.

Tried it, still isnt working. It keeps reverting back to 640x800, even after i change it and save it. Any ideas on how to change it and make it keep it?

Did you try setting the config file to Read Only before launching the game? Just a thought. Don't think it will work, since it really sounds like it's something else that's messed up. But it's worth a shot to try..

I figured out how to fix this. When the game is launched go back to your desktop and open up task manager and right click the program for MW2 and select properties. You can then go to compatibility and check the "Disable fullscreen optimizations" checkbox to disable them. This fixed my problem when I relaunched the game with that checked. :crossout_craft:
