is it true you can get a virus from multiplayer?

I bought this game for the campaign, and the multiplayer seems cool, but I've heard from many veteran cod fans that you can get a virus from multiplayer. Is this true, or just fear mongering?

Game is not safe. So yes they can put a virus on your PC.
Game has RCE exploits. I would advise against playing this game.

RCE exploits allow them to remote access your PC and take control of it.

with friends is safe if you don't think they will hack you. Anyone your connected to can hack you. So be aware of who your playing with. If it's just friends you should be fine.

So I can access multiplayer and not get hacked for sure unless I get into a lobby, game, or server with random people I don't know what they're intentions are? Also can I access the main game singleplayer using a campaign co-op mod with someone on the same network as me and not get hacked?

you need to be in a session with someone using the exploit. So stay away from randoms.
