How to make work for Linux?
Hello everyone,

I am a Linux newb. I looked on protondb.com and noticed this game was fairly buggy but there were a few people who managed to make SINGLE PLAYER work. Being a Linux newb, I have absolutely no idea how to do any of these things. But I really want to be able to play this game on my Linux laptop.

Here are the reports from protondb that give me hope that I can make Single Player work somehow. The 3rd example below seems to be the more simple:

1. Single player requires a cracked version of of the single player binary, iw4sp.exe, as others have noted which, presumably, breaks Co-op Campaign.
The cracked iw4sp.exe appears to break the Steam integration and an error is displayed indicating that you must be logged in to Steam Online to leverage this feature.

2. Fully (single player) playable. I only just had to search and download the iw4sp.exe file and place it inside the game root's folder.

3. The single-player campaign works like a charm only when a modified iw4sp.exe patch is applied inside the game's root folder. I could finish the game without any frills except for this initial nuisance. Bear in mind that using this method disables Steam Achievements completely. I haven't tried multiplayer though.

All of those fixes sound relatively easy the way they have written them, but to a complete newb, I have no idea how to do anything.

How can I find a "modified iw4sp.exe patch"? And then once I get this thing, how can I apply it "inside the games root folder"?

Please help as I really want to be able to play this game but have no idea how to make any of these tweaks to make it happen.
