Antivirus identifies MW2 (iw4sp.exe) as possible Trojan - false positive?
I've been reading some forums about this but I still don't know what to make of it.

After my second boot of MW2, Symantec Endpoint Protection logged it as a potential Trojan (LOGGED, but nothing else) and it even said in the details that there was significant evidence it was safe. It seems it's common for antiviruses to freak out at Steam games, but I can't be sure that's the case here.

My games are all on an external HDD. That being said, my computer's internal SDD is clean according to Symantec. I haven't done an individual scan of the external drive yet.

I find it hard to believe that MW2 has malware in it considering it didn't infect my C drive after two executions. Additionally, I've never played in multiplayer mode (therefore it can't have any connection to P2P or servers and whatnot) - if the iw4sp is infected, it had to come straight from Steam's servers. Sounds like that's pretty unlikely, though. And I didn't download anything from anywhere in weeks, nor any program installs besides Steam games on the external D.

Can anyone weigh in on this? I know others have had the same problem with programs like AVG. Thanks in advance.

Nah I have Symantec. I've heard tons of people have issues with AVG though. It is just kind of a typical thing that happens with games and antiviruses in general?

It's because it is a .exe. If you got the game off Steam and you didn't download a cracked version or something you are fine.

Yeah it's 100% from Steam, no mods/cracks and the game cache checked out. Thanks!

I got a similar warning from BitDefender:

The file C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2\iw4sp.exe.temp is infected with Gen:Trojan.Heur2.GZ.vBW@bGWOojf.The virus has been successfully blocked and your PC is now safe.
