You can get a vac-ban for cheating in the singleplayer campaign?
That depend on what "cheat" you use. If its a "mod/cheat" from creator, you wont get a vac-ban. But, if its a third party (not approved by creator) you can, I say again; you can get vacced. I read somwhere in community, that a player had used cheat in singlplaer for gaming with friends and get vac-banned for it when he played online MP. He raged, but get no understanding from moderators. He didnt cheat in online and wrote he never cheated in multiplayer, but cheat protection is automatic and registreted that he had illegal files in the game.. and got banned.
So...there is no absolute thruth about this, but I will never take that risk, just to get better in singleplayer. Witch is a walk in the park...
Every new player should play the singleplayer up to highest difficulty, just to learn how to act in different maps and playstyles. Just to understand how to play; choose the right style and weapon for the current map and combat. And for crying out load...learn how to aim and shoot without just spray and pray by sitting in a corner and shoot enemies in the back.
You can't get VAC banned on MW2. The servers are entirely independent from Valve's.
