Why tho? AoE 1's and 2's graphics are similar.
And yes, the upcoming "Return of Rome" DLC will bring AoE 1 into AoE 2 and while that may sound controversial, it's the best that could happen to AoE 1, like.. AoE 2 has the better version of the Genie engine and those features will benefit AoE 1 as well and that's also much better than trying to update a game that already has the reputation to be dead.
That's no attempt to bash AoE 1 tho, I mean, I have Rise of Rome as my pfp because I have fond memories of playing AoE 1, but the effort to rework AoE 1 DE to a state where players won't like it is not worth it.

Edit: Seems like Bloom is activated for the AoE 2 screenshot - that can be, like for AoE 1, turned off so appearance will be more like AoE 1.
Well, they'll work on it, by adding it to AoE 2. Some may like it, some don't.
From a dev POV that's the best solution as player numbers won't go up anymore for 1 DE as a couple of mistakes happened such as making 1 DE a Win 10 Store exclusive for over a year.
I know ^^ I'm sorry if it came of as repeating bc that wasn't my intention.
True, that's why I believe developers should keep on working on it.
