If you set your desktop resolution to 1080p, it will use 1080p.
So, before entering the game, change your resolution in windows then start the game.
So every time I want to play the game I have to change my desktop resolution?
How is that even a thing?
Is the resolution option in the settings just for windowed mode?
Sigh ... that's annoying. Annoying enough to earn a negative review I guess.
Still, thanks for the response.
I do the same in order to play at 4k (with DSR), though my monitor is 1080p. It takes 2 s.
There are plenty of other games that uses your desktop resolution as your "playable resolution". Games on Unity engine for example (which don't even have a true fullscreen mode, like AoE 1 DE).
It's because the lack of "exclusive fullscreen mode", you need to do this. It has to do with Windows 10 and "game-mode". Future games will have less and less true fullscreen, you might as well get used to the idea.
Surprisingly enough AoE2DE doesn't have this problem.
Guess I'll have to be more careful with future games if they keep forgeting to include exclusive fullscreen and just avoid them.
I don't know about editor, but in-game 150% scaling works good. Though it resets everytime to 100% after you exit game.
I solved this issue by making the settings.ini as read-only.
Normal game is fine if I ignore the preformance issues that 4k brings in general. Which is another reason exclusive full screen has its uses.
Thank that to Microsoft. They claim that their new fullscreen mode (which in truth is a "windowed fullscreen") has no fps impact compared to exclusive fullscreen.
Which is not true of course, even on latest games, turning off their game mode gets me 2-3 fps at 4k resolution.
2-3 fps might not be much...but if your machine renders 30 fps for example at 4k...you would be thankful to get as much as you can...even that 2 extra fps.
I am not a streamer to alt+tab of the game at each 1 min ; and I always found stupid to game with browser in background and other softwares, no matter how much RAM you would have.
