Someone else said they had this happen to them on Windows 8.1. Are you on Windows 8.1?

Has anyone found a fix for this issue yet? I have windows 8.1 as well, but I'm not sure if it is safe to buy the game right now or wait for a fix/patch/announcement.

I have found the solution on the net. I am not on Windows 10 and I had the Sound issue also
Do this: go to C:/ WINDOWS / SYSTEM 32. Then you will find XAudio2_8.dll. Make a copy of this file and rename it XAudio_9.dll. You need to have Administrator's right to do that

Don't know if you resolved the issue but since I see others describing this elsewhere, thought I would chime in. I was facing the same problem on Windows 10 x64 build 19041. Renaming xaudio2_8.dll to xaudio2_9.dll or xaudio_9.dll was of no use, as suggested by sone; for one, my System 32 folder already had xaudio2_9.dll file and copying xaudio2_8.dll and renaming to xaudio_9.dll didn't do anything. What solved my issue was reinstalling the DirectX End User Runtime from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Download/confirmation.aspx?id=35 . Worked!

No sound on Windows 10 x64, version 2004. I tried your solution, but no updates were found :(

Reinstalling the DirectX End User does not work for me. I run it and then it closes out completely like it crashes.
