Suggestion: LAN for Offline Mode
It is .. interesting that LAN is only avaiable if you're online on Steam. Isn't the purpose of the LAN Mode to play without an Internet connection?

It has nothing to do with cracked games.

I agree, "LAN" (LOCAL Area Network) should work offline and not require an internet connection.
I just played a LOCAL game where it kept disconnecting because of bad internet, with both PC's on the same LOCAL network.

Also, LAN is not even clickable if steam is in offline mode. What gives?

LAN games will play without internet after you have started the game.

But it still requires being online in order to host a game which is absolutely senseless.

Obviously not, since my LAN game did "lose connection to game server" when the internet went out. My LOCAL PC WAS THE GAME SERVER!

In fact. I just checked with my sister. We started a game and i cut the modem connection to the router. Network stayed on, and the entire game froze.

And entering innoffline mode disables the lan button

Is there a solution yet? My wife and I can't play this game because any blip in the network crashes us. nothing like losing hours of gameplay immediately with no way to save your game...

Nope. I mentioned this on the Insiders forum as well, they seem more concerned with online matches and getting the game to the competative scene than actually fixing stuff.

AOE has always been a LAN game, so this is really rediculous.
