Help needed with remote play - Age of Empires Definitive Edition

Hi,

I play Age of Empires (i.e. AOE) Definitive Edition as multiplayer, with a friend via LAN. So far we have played both using Windows 10 computers.

Now I want to use remote play so I can play so we can play in the same room using my old Windows 7 as the streaming machine, with my windows 10 as the host. I have AOE installed on the Windows 10 of course, but not on the Windows 7 as it does not support this version of AOE.

I've been logging into Steam in both my Windows 10 host and Windows 7 remote machine, I go to "Settings > remote play" and they look connected, and I have set up a code on the host. From watching online tutorials I was expecting that at that point, when I look for AOE in the library of my windows 7 machine, I would have the option to stream it or play it, but I don't, I only have the option to install it.

Weirdly, my Windows 10 machine does offer me to play AOE from my Windows 7 one!

What am I doing wrong? I would be really grateful for any advice. Thank you in advance! :-)

I have the same problem! It seems this game only let's you play on a windows 10 machine.

I wanted to play this on my Linux laptop with my Windows 10 desktop in another room, but no stream option is available.

Really weird decision that they don't let you play this way as it works fine in AOE3 and AOE2DE.

Got the same issue - I used to remote play from my Windows 10 machine to my Macbook Pro but now it's disabled and now only gives me a (disabled) install option (because I'm on macOS). Only appears to be with AOE - I can remote play other games.

Same here. AoE2 works remotely but AoE doesn't show up in the list on my Mac.

Hey all - I found a workaround if you’re using a Mac. Download the Steam Link app from the Mac App Store and launch it to remote play. AOE will be playable! Enjoy!

Nice find! I still hope they fix it though.
