On what difficulty are you playing? There are some bugs that make the AI be overly aggressive in some scenarios, even on the easier difficulties. There were some changes made to address these issues a while ago, but I think they still persist in some scenarios.
Here's a long write up on how I did it:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1017900/discussions/0/1638668568133566026/
built clubmen very quickly to deal with yellow.
then towers along the river.
then lots of swordsmen.
Key is to walk your priest east all the way to the east side of the map and start converting the yellow villagers. You'll want to convert them ALL. Keep you priest converting as soon as his meter fills back up. While his meter is filling up you walk him with your next "victim" to keep him close so when it fills up you start chanting immediately.
Take your first villager and build a town center over on the small hill with a couple of stone piles. Have him start to gather wood. All villagers after that should gather food then make sure to get them gathering stone. You'll want to gather enough wood to build a granary and storage pit and at least 6 or 8 houses, then make sure you gather enough stone to build at least 4 watch towers once you reach tool age.
Once I've converted all of the yellow villagers I send my priest to the edge of the woods and build several houses around him. He can't move.... but axemen can't get to him either until they destroy the houses. He'll convert them usually before they can get to him.
The key is if you can survive to tool age, and have the stone available, you build 3 or 4 towers by the town center and you'll survive the attacks then.
2. In my experience, the western enemy liked to spam chariots and chariot archers. You have access to very little gold on your side, so you can turtle up by walling the river and laying down some watch towers and building ships to counter the chariot attacks.
3. Once your economy booms up, give him a taste of his own medicine by amassing your own chariots.
Pretty much this, when I was playing that mission I waited for the Yellow town center to build more Villagers and convert them so I can "double" the production of villagers (You have to leave villagers gathering food and convert the ones chopping wood or mining stone) then wall near the border with Houses and pray to survive the axemen/slinger rush. Then build walls/towers and spam chariots.
Oooooohhh I remember lots of good old rage quits in this particular scenario back in the days...
I have already finished Greek campaign, and I have found it very easy. Then I started this campaign, and I then I stucked with this mission. It's extreme difficult even with easiest difficulty settings. First I tried to convert red villagers, I could convert one, then all their axemen came after my priest, but I could build a village with my one villager, and with many times saving I could defend myself for a time, however with fighting continously the red and the yellow, I failed to succeed. Then I realised, that I started to build at the wrong place. I looked at walkthroughs and many people suggested to convert many of the yellow villagers. I tried it multiple times, but I could covert only one or sometimes too. For most of the times even though I convert from the biggest possible distance, the villager reach me and kill me. After coverting the first one, they seem to be even more resistant.
At last I built my village to the northest part of the map, on the yellow side of the river. There is no gold or stone, but there are plenty of wood there. I could also fish and reach tool age with only one minor attack of yellow and no red attacks, then I could defend myself with a few axemen and scout ships at the west of my peninsula. Then I had many attacks from both enemies, but I could easily defend myself, while collection a lot of wood and food. I have also done some raids with my ships. Then I thoght it's easy now, and I have attacked the yellow with chairots and chairot archers, while blocked the ford with ships on the south. I didn't need to destroy all the yellow towers, with killing all the villagers, they stopped doing anything, so I could take my chairots against the red enemy. Then it became extremely difficult again. There were many chairots defending the base, and a lot of towers, and they kept on creating a lot of new chairots. Even though I also attacked with ships while attacking with chairots, I couldn't destroy any buildings, and as I had never had gold, I couldn't train stone thrower. After a lot of struggle, I couldn't do anything else, but I retreated to the ford to defend my side of the map. I started some axeman rushes against their towers, I could destroy 2 with a lot of effort. As it seemed that there are only very few trees left on both side, setting to very fast speed, I could wait and defend until they used all their resources(wood), and then in the end they could create only villagers and axeman, then I could crush the base with waves of axemen (in the end used most of my food for farming, as I also didn't have much).
Cheat code: HOME RUN
1. Convert lonely yellow villager until AI has none and resigns.
2. Spam tower towards red
3. Build only camel rider because red builds mainly chariots
