Is it really for windows 10 only?

right. and yet pretty much every other game still accepts 7, even new titles such as resi 2 remake, shadow of the tomb raider, a plaque tale. all games that came out less than a year ago.
while this one came out over 20 years ago, which is still an old game with no huge graphical improvements. yeah, so worth win 10.

Don't overwork the poor developers. They are doing all they can to fix the Windows 10 version.

Dudes, is it so unbelievable that a company wants people to use their products? It's like it's a bad thing, or weird or something to you. Of course technically it would work on w7, it's not like the jump from xp to vista, that's obviously not the reason.
I saw another guy feeling angry because they didn't do this to "do gamers a favor" instead they just wanted money... It seems some of you feel that way too, and I'm sorry but that is just absurd.

The bottom line here is you gotta weigh the pros and cons, maybe you can live without this game, or maybe you just gotta upgrade.

It is worth getting Windows 10 to get AOE DE, and AOE2 DE later, if at a reasonable cost. AOE DE is pretty, high tech, easier, and a modern game. Surely AOE2 DE will be too. I can't wait.

Clearly forcing their OS for a game that is over 20 years old. Just like they did with halo 2 thats its only compatible with vista at that time. And the game didnt even had better graphics or anything improved to look like next gen.

And yeah, while this game, of course, doesn't need windows 10 technically, they as a company are supposed to get people into using their latest OS, that alone is enough of a reason, of course, it just isn't enough to make me upgrade right now. The game works on Windows 10, it appears as though you can get it to run on Windows 8, at the moment there is not a way to get it to run on older Windows OSs, that's all the info there is, everything else is pointless.

Now, this has generated a discussion where there are some who are complaining and others who are trying to explain and push their opinion, I don't know which one is worse, what I do know is that I don't want to hear about it, at least not in my thread which was supposed to be purely informative, not only for me, but for whoever comes across this and wonders the same as I did.

From your reaction, I suspect you are quite new to Steam forums, and your chronology seems to confirm it.

Now, I have been frequenting (or better, haunting) this wretched hive of scum and villainy since Christ was still walking the Earth, and if there's one thing I learnt, it's the following rule :

If you start an argument inherent (or even peripheral to) religion, politics, sex or, god forbid, operative systems, then expect the hell to break loose.

So if you come here asking innocently if the game is really for win10 only, either you are looking for trouble, or you should really reconsider your personal view of Steam forums.

You buy a game without checking minimal requirements or the forums then complain? LOL no wonder your boss threatens to fire you.

For an old game you dont expect it to be 10 only. And as stated, new games do work just fine on 7.
And the program and site i use for work is 10 compatible. It was the stupid updates that made me lose my work. And i was not the only one at work who had issues with 10.

I know, that's how people are, but hey, there are relatively high chances of getting an answer, especially considering how simple the question was. And there it is, I got the info I needed, with all that comes with it.
