Check the beta branch, They are rewriting entire game code. Last update was 11.2024. Still normal game is better. Beta is great for multiplayer ( very stable for me ).

Not "Devs" plural. One dude doing nearly everything and rebuilding the entire game from basically scratch. Gotta be patient. Considering there can't be too much money flying into his coffers atm it means he's wearing his fingers to the bone because he loves what he's doing. Rare to find these days!

Being a solo dev isn't really an excuse when you're game has made enough money to pay for some people for help. But that's just in general because I think there is one or two other people working on with him currently.
Honestly rebuilding the whole game from scratch sounds like a really bad idea and has kinda put me off the idea of buying the game at least until that's finished

No one is trying to make "excuses" for the game or for the Dev. Just statements of facts.

The game is playable, warts and all and, for me personally, it's those warts that I find most enjoyable. They add flavor and unpredictability: challenges to overcome and most times a heck of a lot of laughter. How many somersaults can I pull off in my Fury and stick the landing without spreading car parts across two counties that I'll never find again? Will I make it down this massive hill or go full pinball mode halfway down? Will the siphon hose develop a mind of it's own and dismantle the car unexpectedly? Who knows!

If you're expecting some kind of polished driving sim I'd look elsewhere. If you're looking for quirky and potentially hilarious mayhem? Oh, yes . . . THIS is the game! Even better with friends. Not trying to sell you on anything here. It is what it is. Just my point of view.

I am sorry but they are excuses and you are not doing well at reading comprehension.
I love this game and want to get updated and see more of what it can be. I grantee I have played double you have.

I'd honestly refrain from buying at the moment, the progress on the game is extremely disappointing so far, they have released an update on the beta branch but its not an improvement on the main game by the slightest. Game gets very old very fast as there isn't much to do after you repair up your car which you can do fairly quickly.
Also they are trying to shoehorn an FPS mode into the game which I find very weird considering how janky the gameplay is for such a mode.

It's a passion project being done by a handful of people who actually care about it. But it is very much their own creation, which is why they are not outsourcing the work. They are not "developers" in the normal sense of a commercial entity that makes a game and moves on to the next. Just some guys that wanted to make a game, and did.

Development has never actually stopped on the game, and likely never will. It can seem slow at times, and yes, the beta branch is a complete overhaul which is structurally more sound than the main branch, even if it is less playable. It is just there to show that they have made some progress over the last 2 years.

It is likely to end up as one of those games that keeps getting updates for 10 years or more, which is great. The golden age is probably yet to come, when the beta branch reaches maturity, giving us stable multiplayer, and they go back to adding more content.

The best reason to buy it is that it is on sale right now. I think this is the biggest discount ever offered on TLD, reflecting the fact that despite all the work, players are not seeing the benefits right now. When the game is in a better condition in the future, deep discounts are less likely. In the past it has rarely been on discount, and usually only a modest one.

As it stands, with no ifs or buts about the future, it is easily worth the very low price.

What level of cope is this ffs

Cope with what exactly? Oh no, a silly indie game I bought for a tenner hasn't had an update in 5 months! whatever shall I do?
It's a game, not a parrot. It doesn't matter if its "dead" or not. Its a perfectly enjoyable experience as it is, and that won't change no matter how many months or years it takes until it gets an update that meets your standards.
Sure, its nice if you get a new car or something every couple of months, but it doesn't need that for me to keep dipping back into it now and then, and it doesnt need that for it to be worth the price of a small black coffee.

Not sure where all of the hostility is coming from but, please, do have a nice day. Congratulations on your playtime, btw.

It's a welcome change to finally see someone with some sense in one of these threads.

I don't actually care if the game doesn't receive another update, i'd keep writing mods for it regardless. I got my money worth from doing that alone, let alone the 450+ hours I've spent actually playing the thing

These threads seem to be popping up a lot, so i'll clarify the game isn't dead at all. Genesz has been busy moving home, so we have got some more updates coming at some point. Source: In touch with a friend of the developers

Unless you are personal friends with the devs and knows his feelings on this. All that you wrote was cope. Do you know what the 10 year plan is for the dev? Where are you producing all these ideas and plans?
Is it cope or do you actually know these things?

Have you seriously not got better things to do? If you think the game is dead then move on from it. Parroting the same thing repeatedly is getting tiresome.

Never said the game was dead? Who is the parrot? Look inward.
