Game is not abandoned. Genesz is currently working on re-coding the terrain gen from scratch, which is what the current beta is. More patches are on their way to bring it to main build.

Ah, I thought it was odd that the road keeps going into cliffs, and that one part where it made a weird figure 8 turn on itself.

Anyone know why the new Steam update says the devs latest update was 21 months ago? I thought it was a good idea because there are so many abandoned games, but it should at least show the correct information

I saw one of those too! Kind of funny though, I like it.
What I don't like is the sudden jagged angles on hills, and overlapping road seams that you can't see until they flip your car TF out.

Slice it any way you want but no updates on the main branch in 21 months means Steam's going to label the game as not being updated in 21 months. It's probably not going to turn anyone away from the game but it is a less-than-ideal first impression.

It turned me away. I was about to buy it. Game looks fun from videos I've seen, but it really looks abandoned. Which is a shame.

steam did add or is about to add a new feature that labels EA games as abandoned at some point
not sure if its done over time or if they go out of their way to contact devs/publishers

but yea 21 months no update excluding beta branches is not good

if you are going to buy into an EA game do NOT buy into the idea of what could be, look at the already existing game and decide if that would be worth the money, so if the game ends up being abandoned it doesnt matter since you already got the gameplay of your moneys worth out of it

i think, maybe because all update is in beta version off game and not in main version?

That is one case, yes. The store page informs that there were no updates on the *main* branch. The beta is still being worked on and is available to download if you opt into it
