How do you drop items in inventory?

I have mashed every button on the keyboard and I have yet to figure out how to drop a useless sponge out of my inventory. Tried looking in the controls section of the game and looking it up, but I can't seem to find or figure out a simple game mechanic. Please help I'm new here.

select which slot the item is in (1, 2, 3 or 4). then press tab while holding the item you want to drop. pressing tab will take the item out of your inventory. once it shows you're holding the item and it isn't in your inventory, press F to drop it on the floor.

Thank you so much for the help. Been pretty much a console player my whole life and was tired of being limited on what games I could play, so I just recently started getting into PC games. Still trying to learn how everything works haha. Thank you again for helping me out.
