As title says, what's the fastest running engine right now that isn't bus or truck?

The truck and the bus engine gives good acceleration, but it topped out for me at 100 km/h on a completely level ground.

If you want speed then find a VW with a petrol engine. That is the biggest petrol engine in the game currently with 1.8 litres. Just be careful, because the VW is the only car than can spawn with 2 different engines (1.8 petrol or 1.5 diesel) so check the engine block. If the engine has a big, rounded air filter/carburator (idk which one) then that's the petrol engine.

The easiest way to identify which engine a VW has is to just look at the roof. If you see a sunroof, it has the gas engine. If there's no sunroof, it has the diesel engine. The pickup on the other hand always has a diesel engine.

Fastest engine is a very imprecise statement, it might mean either the highest revving engine, the most powerful engine or the engine which allows your vehicle to go fastest. I imagine you mean the last option and in this case petrol VW Golf engine will allow you to reach the overall highest top speed when installed into any car (except for trabant which is too good to take some ♥♥♥♥♥ western block engines)

The fastest engine is still the V8 specially when used in its stock car with the stock tires.
However when you engine swap into some other car and use normal tires, you will lose some of it.
And apparently because of gearing and RPM limitations, tests done with engine swaps into the golf showed the VAZ 2105 engine hitting higher top speeds than the V8, however with terrible acceleration

The Plymouth engine has the biggest top speed afaik.

The gearbox is part of the vehicle so a given engine in each car gives a different top speed. It depends upon what car you put the bus engine in as to how mad it is. This is why gearboxes need to be a separate swappable part just like engines are. Being abnle to swap out a 4 speed for a 5 or 6 speed gearbox would be awesome for more top speed with the overdrive gears. Swapping in and out the gear ratios in the gearboxes would be cool too.

Speaking of mods, I highly recommend physlock radiator so you can indeed put these engines into the Beetle and Trabant. And while on that topic, the electric engines mod is also great. Most powerful engine will give top speeds of around 207 kph. They of course will have better acceleration and only need water for fuel, which is plentiful.

You can also swap engines if you have a diesel VW and want it to run petrol. It will run fine, just won't have that wonderful sunroof...BY the WAY, that sunroof is dangerous. I accidentally had a seat icon appear in the open sun roof and, for other reasons, left clicked and found myself outside with my car speeding away at 140KM... That makes this game so much FUN!!

Fastest Motor?? Not the V8 for the FURY?? I thought that one was the most powerful AND fastest. I assumed the speedometer is reading MPH in that car, making 140 MPH.

Fury Engine in a VW Golf, with whitewalled front wheels.
That thing shifts.
180 Kph uphill, loaded with a drum with 55 litre of gasoline and numerous baskets.
Goes 210 kph on level road and 220+ kph downhill (the speedometer only goes to 220)

If this is still active I've found a new strat.

Basically, there are 2 mods that work really well together. These are "Realistic Automatic" and "Superchargers."

The first mod has a chance to spawn any car with an automatic transmission, however, since the bus was already automatic, it can now also spawn with a manual. It has a 6 speed, making it the highest geared vehicle in the game.

The next mod is self explanatory. If you know the turbo mod, this is the same thing, except you don't have to rev the engine up high to get the boost. Slam a nice big compressor or two on the bus engine.

Now you have THE fastest vehicle in the game. And super useful too with all that space!
