The Long Drive

The Long Drive

The new Plymouth. What do you think?
Fuel Economy.
Suspension.
Fun?

To me it seems a very soft ride, but it also seems the Fuel Economy is horrible. I mean.. sure.. these Cars arent known for being Fuel Efficient. But it seems this Car wont even go 100Km on its own full Fuel Tank.
Aside of that.. im not sure if its Perspective or if this Car is really Fast. The Acceleration is damn fast, thats for sure. And the Handling like Steering is very good ( I mean.. it doesnt easiely flip or Roll around). Also.. is the Speedometer in Km/h or Mp/h? It should be Mp/h, but is it actually?

So far i like the Car very much.. but it drinks waaaaaay too much fuel if you ask me.

What do you think are its Pros and Cons?

Maybe white? Early Furys (1956-57) were white. Or maybe black, hmmm i haven't seen a Fury with its gold trim in black
It could be a Belvedere or a Savoy. If you know how to tell them apart, please tell me because I have a very hard time with that.
Belvedere, Savoy and Plaza are all very difficult to tell apart, also the ingame one is obviously just modelled after Christine as it has the exact engine and transmission as the movie car, I doubt devs were going for realistic colours. Also maybe the cars were repainted by a former owner or were ordered with a specal paintjob?

I found one just this morning. A sad affair, really. A once beautiful automobile was a rusted shell of her former self.
That would have been fine. I found her at a bus station. Figured there would be what I needed laying around to get her purring again. No such luck...this time. hehe.
km 157 of a brand new save. I'm on a mission, folks. :cozyroe2:
You can always put some other parts on it temporaarily and then restore it on the way
That is exactly what I did with the 3rd one I found. I actually found one INSIDE a structure with the B&W paint I was looking for. Must've glitched in because there was no way to move it out.
I am in one now. Found it at a diner at KM 437 in my current seed. Spent three game days getting it road worthy and on our first 10 km's out, found a ship with a full 55 litter drum of gas. I'm set for a bit. :steamhappy:

I’m at 240km now and including my Fury I found 3 other ones, interestingly all were complete
I put the V8 into the truck and it flies along. Nice ride.

Being repainted is the most plausible explanation. These cars are old enough that it would actually be pretty surprising if any of them were supposed to have the original paint jobs.

I also think it's funny that it's based off the movie car, as it could still technically be modeled on a Belvedere. They had to use some of those, as they used multiple cars while filming and the Fury was already pretty scarce by the time the movie was made.
You can find out all about what car/s they used in the movie from wiki. It seems they did use the sliver trim like in the game because the fury's gold trim was much more rare. Fury also only came in a white so the red/white top was custom of course, cuz it looks scarier :)
This is what im rollin with right now. The ai mod is great for stealing parts, although they don't reload on saves for some reason. I wish i could grab the light bar off a cop car...

I love the styling and all, and the power, but the suspension in my experience is way way to soft and I really bounce around and hit the ground, even over the smallest of bumps.

Well the car in game is very obviously not a Fury, i only say its a Fury due to its gold trim along its flanks for the sake of differentiating it from the roof coloured side trim version. Plaza's were easier to spot generally because they had nearly no extra body trim at all. Now Savoy's and Belvedere's were a bit harder to tell apart because you could option up a Savoy with the Belvedere's sweep spear trim, however it seems that many Savoy's came with "sport tone" trim which was secondary body colour spear that ran from the rear bumper to the middle of the lower rear door. Not many Belvedere's (if any) came with that trim. The Fury was easiest to spot due to its extremely flashy golden anodized aluminium trim and gold grille and hubcap centres, they had a 150mph speedo, full instrumentation, very obviously many came with a Golden Commando and Torqueflite package. That engine was not standard, the standard engine for the Fury was a 318 (the old A block, not the newer LA one we all know and love) with dual 4 barrel carbs, wild cam and a free-ish flowing exhaust making about 290 Hp, the standard engine was not very nice to use with manual due to its cam. All non Fury Plymouth's came with a variety of v8s, namely a 301 or something like that, it changed year to year and its impossible to remember them without constant rereading articles. Fun fact, you could option from the factory the Golden Commando in any Plymouth you wanted, imagine how many stripped out base model Savoy's (the Plaza was dropped after '57 and the Savoy became lowest spec) were equiped with a beast of an engine, it would have been an absolute rocket !

Edit:
And i forgot to mention that in 1958 the Fury was only available in Buckskin Beige, in '59 it had the same colour palate available as the rest of the line

Regardless of what it is, people seem to like it :) They used many different models making Christine so you could easily say it's just modeled after that, even tho the belvidere seems to be closest with the 120 speedo and silver trim, tho there is a version in game with "yellow" trim, that could technically be called gold ? I suspect the engine is the v800, due to the speedo and i haven't seen it get to 300 hp on the mod. The engine detail isn't really enough to tell it from the commando imo. It does have chrome air cleaners too and not gold.
Call it what u like, but i'm calling mine a fury! lol. AFterall the fury was just a modified belvidere anyway...

I'll be the one negative opinion. I don't like the shape and style of the car itself. I prefer cars with a more boxlike rectangular angular shape. Perhaps i just need to re-read Christine.

Is it just me or does it get ungodly amount of wheelspin when accelerating from a stop?
the engine has 305hp, in real life it would spin it's wheels even more
To me it looks like the engine is modeled after the v800. The tuner only shows the peak hp at 288. The power band looks ok, but i have no idea what the real cars looks like on a dyno lol. You could probably tweak the low end down a bit to control the spin and theres also a trans mod that might change it, but i'm good with it how they set it up. Plus the tuner mod is NOT recommended cuz it can break your save ( just putting in a disclaimer ) :) It might not seem a realistic car to pick for the game, but i know a lot of people have made these christine cars. Plus it's sitcks out cuz it's the first non euro box low powered car. A lot easier to get working in an apocalyptic situation because little electronics. lol.

Yeah that band is bad, really bad. All of the hot Plymouth engine in '57 and '58 ( i dont know much about '59) had really peaky power bands. You may be right in saying its supposed to be the 318 "V800", the power seems about right but the engine model itself is the 350, namely the size and the carburettors used (Carter AFB) that allowed more conventional upright aircleaners. Genesz probably didnt want use the actual power of that engine because it would just be too much for pleasurable driving. Plus its a video game, in the end who the hell cares anyway right

True it's a game, but i think a lot of people like us appreciate the realism of how the cars are done. I've done a little research on all the cars and it's obvious they put some time into getting the specs to where the real cars are. I'm a ford guy so the Plymouth was a bit of a mystery to me until i did the research. Might as well get to know a bit about the cars if you're planning on driving them for 5000 km. We'll see if the "fury" has what it takes to add to my 5k list :)
