Just started to play 3 days ago and i already got over 30k gold there will be plenty of things you will have to spend gold on in mid/lategame
Between that and accruing overnight it's not too bad.
when u have goddes of nature active yes. (started yesterday and guess is a must have) running panth of fat chicken as heritage and goddes of nature as panth with chicken god as religion right now and should have my 100k gold together in one or 2 hours from now)
Each academy gives one hero which will capture one tile. And on that tile you will then construct the same building you could have put onto the tile you built the academy on instead. I'm guessing by the build costs of heroics that academies become useful later after you sailed and actually need heroic buildings.
EDIT: I take it back, didn't realise conquered tiles were permanent, so yes, Academies are great.
That's what you want at the beginning. Get an Academy to get one tile and then abdicate. Now you have 1 more tile than previously. It's important to get more and more tiles after all and Academies is a good way to do so in addition to the gold (if you would only get tiles with gold it would take years to get to sail away to another contintent).
