I am in the middle of playing The Old Blood and so far I like it but the over the top castle size is a little much. The castle in Return to Castle Wolfenstein was an old world castle which added to the creppiness.
I need to add that I did have a crash issue in Wolenstein 2009 that I forgot about. It crashed at the end of the Farm about 3 times but I worked it out.
To answer your question it is actually a good spin off from RTCW and is closer to the Old Blood than to the New Order. My opinion.
Another thing the Idtech 4 engine was a complete rewrite of the Idtech 3 engine (so it's not the same) the info is on the Wiki, it still crushes anything make with Unity today.
I hated Wolf 09 back in the day because it had far more complex mechanics than the average WII shooter, today post Fallout 3 I dig the RPG-lite mechanics, at least Raven was trying to bring something newer than the average WII shooter back then.
