Best Codec?
Hello
What is the best Codec for rendering clips which are made via Nvidia Geforce Experience Shadowplay?
Some of them give a good quality but huge sizes, others give a less good quality but a small size. What are you mostly taking? I am not 100% happy with the codec I am currently using.

1 gig bytes for every 10 minutes , for 1920 x 1080p video
that's about 100 Meg Bytes Each Minute , using Sony AVC\MVC 16 Mbps codec
with PCM audio , from the "Mastering Dialogue" .

if you Render un-compressed using "Video for Windows" , 24 bit RGB ,
the file size can become as much as 1 Gig bytes or more for each Minute !
( file size is typically too large to be useful )

this is how i do it for 1080 resolution :
in Movie Studio :
Make Movie-->Burn to a DVD or Blu-Ray disc-->Blu-Ray disc-->Next

you should now be viewing the Mastering dialogue .
Choose :
Render Image Only
Sony AVC
choose 1080 with a 16 Mbps data rate
Sony Wave64 for PCM audio at 48 khz .
( when Vegas Project is set to 5.1 you can render with 5.1 audio 6 channels ).

the burned file is a .iso image file .
myTestVideo.iso
waite for Rendering to complete
next ,
Right click the .iso file and Open with Explorer .
now navigate inside th4e .iso file to find : 00000.m2ts
Extact 00000.m2ts ( drag to Copy )
then rename 00000.m2ts to myTestVIdeo.m2ts .

myTestVideo.m2ts
is Blu-ray compliant .
can be uploaded to youtube or burned with menus using DVD Architect .

that's not really what I want.
I need the rendered clips becaue they are gonna be used again, as something like .mp4 (preferable). Also I need a high bitrate because mainly I am recording shooter games otherwise you can see pixels which make it less enjoyable.

In the past I used Windows movie maker with custom settings 1080p and 135.000 kbps bitrate and I am searching for something like that.

mainConcepts codec , can reach very high bit rates .
try mainConcepts AVC codec and manually set the bit rate you want
in the digit boxes .

make sure the Vegas Project Video Tab is set to Best , for Best quality .
also , the Audio Tab should be set to Best , for Best audio quality .

I remember I tried different codecs already and the problem with them was that the quality was bad as hell and many of them brighted the video up so there was some sort of white fog on it.

Currently I'm going with Sony AVC/MVC, but as I said, I am not happy with the bitrate even if everything else looks fine.

Do I have to download mainConcepts codec somewhere or is it already preinstalled with another name?

Some said I shall deactivate Resampling at all; is that true?

And by the project tab the quality thing you mean: Render as -> select one codec -> edit preset -> at the bottom "project" and there set the quatliy to best I can get.

*Edit: I found something with MainConcept at MAGIX AVC/ACC MP4. I can test it the next time I render something when I got enough material again.
One more thing: In the "video" tab it says "preset" which goes from best speed up to best quality. I shall put in best quality there, shall I?
If I still have questions, I ask again.

yeah , Magix AVC/ACC .mp4 is the one ,....that is the mainConcept codec .

Vegas Main Menu Bar :
Project-->Project Properties-->Video tab , Full Resolution Render Quality--> Best

doing slow motion , Resampling may help or may hurt . test with slow motion to find out .

side note :
1080p blu-ray bit rate , on a Factory Hollywood Movie disc
have Max bit rate of 30 Mbps .

choose the mainConcept Internet 1080p .
the bit rate Max's at 240 Mbps . Two Hundred and fourty Mbps
and use 2-Pass Rendering .

I'll check it out when I'm back from hospital. Thank you for the information.

I am rendering a clip twice now. Once with the maincodec magix thing and the other one (already done) with Sony AVC to see the difference.

One big difference I can already see is: Sony needs about 60-70% CPU usage meanwhile MAGIX/mainconcept uses 100%, takes much longer and also has a bigger Size.

My question is: how does 2-pass Rendering help?

*I should have done it via graficcard instead of CPU, but ok.*

Edit:The Quality is good, not too bright like other codecs, but there are still with 135.000.000 bitrate too many pixels. Is there a way have it look like the old version but only cutted?

Edit,Edit: **** I missunderstood the translation between at me "good" and "optimal" -.-
optimal = Best. Gonna do it again and then I say if it works or not.
Also it only appears on youtube. The moment I watch it on my PC it is to 99% perfect, but on youtube it looks awefull.

ah ok. We were able to find a way how to deal with it.
We are using Google drive to store the files for our content creators. That way there is almost no quality loss.
Then I also don't have to upload it with my codec. Maybe they have a better codec for youtube which doesn't get transcoded that hard or even not at all.

Thank you for all the help.
wakeme Feb 17, 2020 @ 6:52pm
yeah , you just upload the original files , as a Data File , to the Google drive .
No Transcode takes place . you will have Full quality that way , but perhaps
larger file sizes .

youtube Always transoces codes to reduce file size on there servers
and to reduce streaming bandwidth .

if you have the space on google drive you can upload your pristine source footage
and it will be the same on on G-drive ,...

only draw back , everyone needs the Special link to Your Google Drive .
