Why cant I use my Xbox controller?

I tried to. The Xbox controller was connected and when attempting to "assign the controller" the game would not switch from mouse and keyboard. I pressed every button on the controller, removed the battery and put it back in, reconnected the controller and nothing worked. Its a standard Xbox controller, so its not like its a third party remote, and I use it in every other game that allows game pads, sooo I'm stumped.

Fixed:

Right click the game in your Steam. Go to Properties > Controller. In the "Override for PGA Tour 2K21 option", select "Enable Steam Support"
