How realistic?
Hey buddies,

Was wondering how realistic this game is since it's on sale. I'm looking for the closest experience to real life. Is it possible to be disqualified because of a nasal swab test?

Thanks

The physics are actually pretty good, except the sand
All sand traps have been compressed to the point that the ball will never get stuck deep in, and will always roll down to the lowest point

Not true, Course authors can (and should) adjust the sand trap parameters to have a ball not travel all the way down to the lowest point of the bunker. Sadly, most authors (even the official ones) don't pay much attention to details like these.

Physiscs seem jacked to me. You can't kill an approch shot by hitting it into a hill because it will bounce straight back. No matter how you chip with any club other then a lob wedge it will roll a mile. In real life I chip with a 7 iron most of the time from the fringe if you do that with this game it will roll like 15 yards no matter how softly you hit it. Honestly, After the last update or two I wish I didn't own it anymore. If anyone has a suggestion for a good golf game I'm all ears.

No one is going to build a golf game to play like you in real life, cause it is WRONG. But if you insist on using a 7 from the fringe, add a lot of backspin and set your landing point halfway between you and the flag and only use about 50% of a backswing. Still... green conditions (firmness/speed) will influence the results.

When I mention compacted sands, it is the case for all officially published courses, at least the ones you play in matchmaking

It is very surprisingly realistic, I played this free weekend and didn't find anything that stood out. What I think it does best is the overall golf mechanics, the risk and reward. It is very close to real golf, how you can gamble on a longer club and get rewarded with a better position for the next stroke, or penalized by ending up in a bunker.
WGT, at any time. Over anything else out there. It's even utilised by professionals to familiarise themselves with the real courses, that's how accurate it is. Not to mention the ball and club physics, strength, length, precision, durability, spin, wind, surfaces, elevations, etc. It's the most accurate and realistic golf game (simulation) out there. All other golf games aim for a ... slightly different ... target group, to put it mildly.

The physics are broken. Some people are able to game the system and get unrealistic scores far lower than any top professional would be able to get on any given course. I'm not familiar with the cheats that are being used, but it makes the game very lopsided for normal players. IMO no player should be able to generate an unrealistic final score that's way lower than a real life pro and until the devs fix the flaws in the game that allow this it's broken.

As a 4 hdcp, theres no WRONG way to play around the green. There's a realistic way represented by physics, then there is this game (Trash).

The franchise is dead already, or will be completely redone from the ground up by a different studio in the future.

Perfect Golf has simulator worthy physics, but probably one of the worst UIs. EA is rebooting the golf at some point this year I believe.

on sale, its the best golf game for pc and for sure the best bang for the buck with all the user designed courses you can play.

It depends what you mean by realistic
Playing solo is the only way to really enjoy the game unless you are cheat.
I played at Royal ST Georges yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. The conditions were very difficult and I went round in +2. At sawGrass i went round in -9.
When it comes to control then theres zero realism. Much of this is down to bad and lazy programming. There are so many inconsistencies. The use of wind is totally unrealistic.
When it comes to online competition realism. Think of how the Tiger woods EA games were ruined by cheats. I looked at one tournament in a society and some cheats were minus 50. The birdie and eagle and better every hole.
The online game is ruined by cheats.
career mode has ludicrous AI. So the scoring is silly and unrealistic. They use a basic algorithm for the AI thats the same no matter what the course and conditions are.
Play solo and the game is decent. Putting is very good and not difficult to work out if you know how golf games work.
The gameplay, solo, is not realistic but it can be fun. It also gets boring.
If you want realism then play the real game.
If you want to avoid cheating the play solo.
I can't recommend the game. If it was free it would still be poor.
I love golf games but this game is one of the worst of all time.
If the devs could be bothered to fix its problems and ban the cheats then it could be decent. But that takes time, effort and money.hence their refusal to fix it.

Game's almost too realistic because of the swing timing mechanic. More frustrating than the real thing sometimes. With swing timing turned off, the game's awesome but you can't find any MP with those settings.
