Career mode offline

Am I missing something? No mention in the shop that to play career mode you need to always been online? I've not had any golf game that forced you to be online for career mode but this does. Is there no option to play the career mode offline? I have no intention of ever playing the online parts.

Never mind. Found the answer and have now requested a refund. Annoying as I quite liked the 4 holes I played but really annoyed about the online requirement. Only way to stop this is for more people to do refund requests and stop purchasing games that have this bull in them.

Not really. Once the servers go offline or they have server issues then you get kicked out of career mode. I've just bought an old copy of Tiger Woods 2013 for my PS3, I'll play that instead. I purchased the collectors edition as have been told it includes 90% of the game now that the servers are offline so no longer available.

That is the reason for the refund. In years to come when people "claim" this to be a "classic" people will realise its a dead duck because the servers are no longer online so career mode is dead.

Just to back up what you're saying: That is a 100% valid reason. If career mode require online to be able to post leaderboards, etc. that's understandable and those features should then simply not work if the servers are finally down or if you're offline. But to make a single player mode require online because... reasons? That's not acceptable. It's just lazy at best.

It's pretty standard, nowadays; and, assuming your web connection is consistent in 2021, not an issue for 99% of players.

As far as playing old games, that's not a concern either because golf games are about what is available today. People are trying to play multiplayer, not by themselves. This game is not the best multiplayer platform, but people aren't going to start living in caves, anytime soon.

Exactly that, a kill switch "Please buy are new version of the game. You have to as we've turned off the servers for the last one so you can't play it anymore". Thankfully we have people selling their old copies of golf games for the old consoles.

EA did with TW 2008 they closed the server, but you can still play on-line thanks to gameranger, hamachi ect: in a way the game was before it`s time with so many options and the True Swing of TW 2008 has not yet been beaten . The price of Genuine used DVD rom is going up

Wanted to buy the game and fortunately I saw this. I will NOT buy it. I am sick and tired of games that requires internet just to play alone in single player. Apart from the reasons already given by others that this is a bad system there is also the issue that when you yourself have internet issues then you can't even play your game in SP. No buy from from me.

You might have a better argument if you stick to games that are/were available on PC.

TW2008 is still completely playable, but since Microsoft has blocked the DRM used on that title, you have to "patch" it to get it to run.

This game allows you to be offline and play single player local alone or with friends, the practice range, and use the course designer.

Career mode has numerous elements (like unlocking gear) that require online access.

All of the previous Golf Club games are still available to play online. TGC2019 even has separate dedicated online servers for the golf sim versions. Considering that the course design and hosting function is an integral part of the Golf Club games, you will probably find that this game will continue to work online until Valve goes out of business and Steam shuts down.

It still have nothing to do with steam or valve. EA own andv fun the servers.

The point still stands. Single player mode should work offline. If it doesn't then it is clearly a form of DRM and/or monitization (requiring paid for dlc courses like in tiger woods 2013).
