Hitting The Ball
Hi.
I recently purchased this game for PC. I was using a controller recommended on Amazon, but was struggling with hitting the ball, so i have now purchased an official Xbox controller. Anyway, I am still having the same problems. All the controls work correctly, but, i am having big problems hitting the ball at the correct percentage. Been in the practice range and it doesn't matter what club i use or when i pull the controller forwards, my power percentage is always 101%, Which is ok if you want to hit the ball 100% during a round. But the real problem is putting. Most putts aren't 100%. So if i pull the controller backwards for downswing (it doesn't mater how slowly i do it), the power bar goes very quickly. Therefore when i pull the controller forward, its impossible to stop it in the 100% white zone. The only way i can get near to the white zone, is if i press up way before and hope it gets near. I am only playing on beginners mode! Is this a fault, or am i doing something wrong?

I use an xbox controller. Try calibrating your shot in the practice menu. Utilize practice swings during gameplay. On your backswing, gently pull back just enough to get the meter moving but not all the way back. then it is just timing when to push forward. look at your thumb. For me, the corner of my thumbnail is straight up. Practice Practice Practice. Hope any of that helps.

I did the same thing. Tried a PS4 and an Xbox controller. Switched to the mouse. I have much better control now. Your difficulty level does make a difference. Online match settings by default are set to Pro.

Thanks for your replies. I have managed to play a couple of rounds now and my putting is more realistic.

switching controllers isnt going to matter if you fundamentally have a problem with the swing. With that said mouse is the way to go

Mouse is NOT the way to go since the mouse swing is not timed to any of the golfer animations. If you play with a mouse, turn OFF the swing timing. But the game is way too easy this way. That said...

An xbox one controller on Master difficulty with ALL aids (even the grids) turned off is really the only way to play this game. It takes time to get to this point, but when you do and start scoring under par, it feels like you have accomplished something.

If you cant figure out swing timing on the mouse its more about you and not the hardware. Hate to say it, but get good it just takes practice. Its very easy to play with the mouse.

Having to use all the aids to actually play the game really does speak to your overall understanding of the game.

I wonder what your framerate is. Certain aspects of this game are definitely tied to framerate. I've noticed from playing on the switch that it can be excessively hard to putt if your framerate is too low.

Consider turning on a FPS counter. If your frames are crazy high, turn on vsync. If they're low, turn the settings down a bit.

Swing timing (the velocity of which the downswing is made (the forward push of the mouse)) is a KNOWN issue, and according to the dev's, practically impossible to be consistent with the mouse since is not tied to ANY realtime on screen indicator (i.e the backswing animation). The remedy is to lower the mouse sensitivity which then makes the game even easier for mouse players.

If you could read better, you would notice I say to turn OFF all the aids. Come over and join a True Sim League, though you will be made to use a controller.

Operator error, Me and the 5 guys i play with have no issue with 400 dpi mouse gameplay. the vast majority of my shots are perfect or near perfect. And no, i moved to pc to avoid using a controller, its just flat out inferior.

flat out inferior? in your not so humble opinion huh. You could not pay me enough to use a mouse on a golf game, but each to their own

When normal current mouse dpi is 1600 to 2400 or above, a 400 dpi mouse is exactly the problem that I mention in my post. Literally no challenge whatsoever with such a low resolution. I'm sure every shot is straight as an arrow and exactly where you want it. Why even "play" the game.

But hey, you do you, and thanks for the chuckle.

Playing with a mouse is a lot easier than with a controller, I can confirm. However there are some huge issues with animation/mouse speed not syncing at all, such as pitching requiring to pretty much go at the same speed as a full shot despite the animation clearly taking a lot more time and slower overall
