Game thinks I'm using PS4 Controller??
Anyone else having the issue of the games seeing your xbox controller as a PS4 controller makes it hell for trying to figure out the changes when i see X and really ...(on top of all the other issues)?

Yeah, had this, too. Just go into your Steam setting, Controller, Settings and disable all controller assistants. It's more of a steam issue than an issue of the game, though. Quite a few games act that way. You could also disable the assistants on a per game base (in this case on 2k20) if you need steams contoller emulation on other games.

At the top left of the steam program you click on "Steam" > "Settings" > "Controller" > "General Controller Settings" > Then un-check any of the checked settings. This should the issue. For me I have to uncheck to play 2k20 and check off "xbox configuration support" when i want to play the Witcher 3

I am having the same problem a year later! Any fix for this?

The advice to change steam controller settings changed nothing for me

They have changed the way it its done now you have to right click on your game and go to properties then go to controller and select "disable steam input" pretty sure that will work.

This works wired to the desktop but not through the Steam Link. There the button prompts are PS4. It makes no sense! In game "Input settings" shows Xbox binds despite referring to all my controllers as "PS4 Controller" while the "Controls" screen shows PS4 prompts!?

If anyone manages to get Xbox prompts working through the Steam link I would be very grateful!

That is incredibly frustrating to hear! Are the developers trolling us??

This worked for me. Had same problem was mashing buttons and nothing worked before. Finally won a match
None of this worked for me and I've tried many fixes. If you're using the Xbox Core Controller and having the same problem let me know. It would put my mind at ease to know that's the problem as I suspect.

I've had similar issues with a few other games like Madden, and it's not exclusive to steam. Even on origin. So I dont think everyone's problem is the same. I dont think mine is a steam problem at all.

And the issue is generally resolved by plugging your controller in via USB-C. Even after updating the controller, to my knowledge, these are known issues that have yet to be fixed and yet to be announced to be fixed. If I'm wrong about that I'd be happy to be corrected with a proper fix.

I am having the exact same problem with an off brand Xbox 360 controller I bought from Amazon. I looks like an Xbox 360 controller, and shows up in my device manager as an Xbox 360 controller, but Steam still thinks it's a PS4 controller. It still works in games, but the menu in big picture mode only shows PS4 buttons which is super annoying. If you are able to discover a fix to get Steam to recognize a controller as an Xbox 360 controller, let me know!
