Can't load Prototype
I have just downloaded Prototype, and every time I try playing it, via my desktop or through Steam, the game screen (I'm assuming, I have never seen it) goes to the top left of my computer screen, only taking up a quarter of it, in a grey color. I then receive the following message from windows: "Prototype has stopped working (as the heading). Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...", followed by this message 3 seconds later: "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." If anyone is aware of the "solution" windows is referring to, or if they have a different solution, it would be greatly appreciated. I can list my system specifications if they are required.

Sounds like a graphics issue. Do you have the latest graphic drivers installed?

I have a DirectX 11 driver, Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 graphics card

While integrated graphics has come a long way, you're still going to get little or no support. I can't think of any other solution. If you're running a laptop, you'll have to see if a computer tech can upgrade it with a motherboard equipped with a mobile version of a dedicated graphics card. It's still quite an expensive upgrade, either way. On the upside, doing so would make playing all your other games more enjoyable.

If you're running a desktop, and you just need an inexpensive dedicated graphics card to game on, the nVidia GeForce models 610 to 650 should be enough for you to run games easier. Not sure about the ATI Radeon equivalents because I haven't used that brand of dedicated chipset before.

Dang it, I'm running a GeForce 545. Thanks for the assistance, I'll be looking into upgrading.

Hm... I would think that model of graphics card would've been able to run it. Would you happen to be running anything like Riva Tuner Statistics Server in the background? I've found that on Windows 7 Service Pack 1, if I used it on Prototype it would cause it to crash immediately upon launching. I had to revert back to the pre-SP1 installation before using it again. Something about the update patching the DirectX layering to where it cannot be modified or altered so easily.

As far as I know , I'm not running anything of the sort. That could be the case, because I've had the exact same problem with the single player of the game "Medal of Honor." I'll try what you've suggested. Thanks.

Nope, running it in compatibility mode did nothing.

Oh. I meant if you know that you're running RTSS in the background. I had to completely uninstall the Service Pack 1 update from my Operating System. Otherwise, while my machine was running Service Pack 1, I couldn't launch it with RTSS running at the same time. I couldn't play without RTSS as I use it to stablize the game's frame rate and in turn the controls. RivaTuner and D3DOverrider could also potentially cause your game to crash to desktop upon launch in SP1. I wouldn't do it unless you know that you're running them and that you can't play the game without them. With your model being a 545, it should run at or near 30FPS, which is what I force my game to limit FPS at. With any luck, you'll find what's causing your game to crash out.
