Idiot.
Having to hack games to get them to work when there's lack of support isn't new by the way.. Look at Borderlands 1 and having to get a different .DLL just to get around not having an SSE instruction set on your cpu :P
EDIT: And.. 404. Anyone have an updated link to this fix?
It didn't. Still waiting for a forward to this fix mentioned above.
Firstly if you have chipmunks-sounding voices and distorted video and sound in CUTSCENES(not web of intrigue or vidoes like the beginning movie) :
Make sure your sound does not exceed 48000 Hz(regardless of the frame rate). Try 44100 Hz. To do this you must go to your speakers properties and select advance tab and set it. An easy way to do this is by right-clicking on the sound icon in the icons tray and select playback devices.
Secondly if your sound is too low:
Now that you have set the correct settings you may find the sound is a little too low.
If it is just download the SOUND PATCH :- http://www.divshare.com/download/7719256-2aa
Then you just copy and paste the file into the installed directory E.g. C:/Program files/Activision/Prototype
Be sure to have a backup of the original file before replacing just in case.
Thirdly if you have a problem with crackling/slow cut scenes:
Go to your control panel and then go to Hardware and sound and select the DEVICE MANAGER. (If you don't know how to get there just use windows help and support)
When you are in the device manager find the HUMAN INTERFACE DEVICES. In the drop-down menu there should be some useless HID devices you can disable. Disable the devices by right clicking on them and selecting 'disable'. Which ones to disable is Trial and error.
Most of these devices you do not need anyway and i assure you it wouldn't harm your PC. Just make sure you don't disable your mouse(if it is a USB device)...............If you are having this problem then Prototype is most likely running way slower than it should(Even on a gaming PC)...Trust me i have the Toshiba X300 Qosmio gaming laptop(the flaming red one)
When you disable the useless HID devices you will be able to run Prototype FASTER THAN EVER!!
Hope one of these work for you.
I had low volume as well, which was fixed with this patch: http://dl.gamecopyworld.com/?c=725495341&d=2009&f=Prototype_Sound_Normalize_Patcher_By_KelSat!rar
8 years later, but thank you. This was really helpful. Can't believe how unplayable this game was.
Then please make your own thread. This one is over 3 years old now.
