Horrible performance
I'm getting the worst performance on this mod, I have a pretty high end rig, nothing insanely fancy but it was able to run a heavily, and I mean HEAVILY modded version of Enderal just fine, I run more intensive games just fine too, haven't found anything that tanks as bad as this in years. Some of the graphics settings seem to have a slight impact on performance but it's at best maybe 5-8 fps, weird thing is I started the game with everything maxed out, came out of the cave and my fps was completely fine, once I left Tirin Abbey though, or more specifically as I was making my way towards Giliad, the game quite literally shat itself and now no amount of optimization I do makes it playable, it does make it slightly better at the cost of turning this very beautiful hand crafted world into a complete mess.

What's even more strange is that I remember running this mod years ago with much better performance, none of this makes any sense, I tried googling and came out empty handed, tried setting everything to low and it was still choppy as hell, it looks alright when I stand still, but any movement is jittery and just feels like ♥♥♥♥. I'm trying to fill the dark void that playing Enderal left in my soul with Nehrim, and so far it seems like it would work, if it did. I even tried deleting all my saves expect my latest one, no dice. Nothing seems to work, so any suggestions that have not yet been mentioned on this post would be appreciated.

In case it helps, I'm running this on a GTX 1650, i5 9400f and 16gb RAM.

EDIT: Turning distant land off seems to do very little, however turning it off and then on again seems to boost my fps at least temporarily.

Ok, so I haven't tried any of that yet, but I swear I just turned my music back on and now I'm getting no lag, I'm starting to wonder if messing with settings in game might have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ something up on my end, I'm getting more frequent crashes too all of a sudden. I might try starting a new game or grabbing an older save file, something is definitely wrong here.

It seems like oblivion sound is at fault atleast in my case, at first i though it was frame limit over 60fps causing my game to crash but i was wrong and it was sound codecs installed so i uninstalled my potpop player and installed k lite codec pack, now crashes are gone but game sutters once every 5 seconds.

Yeah no doubt, it's been running at 60fps since, stutter is still there but that's just Oblivion being Oblivion, any time I change the setting though ♥♥♥♥ gets weird, so I've elected to not touch it for now.

So like, the stuttering for me I found was caused by the music. Turning down music volume to 0%. goes from supposedly 45fps with stutters every 3 seconds, to 50-60fps and no stutters. Settings on highest/ultra.

but that changes the oblivion.ini file and the next time I play i get 1-5 fps. WTF oblivion.

So i fixed my performance issues by deleting oblivion.ini, starting nehrim to recreate it, editing it (music 0%, and there was one line under that like musicenabled=1 I set to 0, idfk) and then made it read only.

Hope it helps you guys.

Nehrim uses a OBSE plugin to improve the music system, which can cause the stutter https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/45925 , you can remove it by renaming the Oblivion\Data\OBSE\plugins\EnhancedMusicControl 2.dll file type to something else.

Holy crap, you're right, turning the music off fixed it! I tried renaming the DLL but that didn't work, volume did work though

EDIT: Just removing the DLL altogether works. Now I can play with music and no stutters. It still loads if you just rename.

Hm, yeah, might be one of the crash factors, guess the engine can not handle much of that plugin stuff.

You know, I noticed it opens the LAV codec too. There was another game that had the same problem and it was a simple 2d game. It's like the sound engine kept opening a new codec every three seconds, causing the stuttering. When you exit the game there's a bunch of Icons in the taskbar for a few seconds because it's literally loading the codec constantly but then when you shut it down they all close.

That's the other game that does it. As far as I know the author never fixed either.

Welp, was there any a fix or newer version for EnhancedMusicControl 2? Or is the only solution to just throw it away?
Just Chill Oct 5, 2021 @ 1:58pm
Throwing it away will unfortunately end in some music being not played.
Some script use emc-Commands to play music.
If the plugin is gone, these commands will simply produce a script error, which still shouldn't lead to crashes though.

It will just stop play some specific themes at various occasions.

https://www.indirectsound.com/ seems to help but it may be isolated

Thanks, I will give it a try :)

Okay guys, I spent about 20 hours trying to figure this out. Yes the problem with performance and horrible lag is cause by onboard sound processing (absence of designated sound card), not by our hardware. Given that the music in the game is amazing I couldn't just disable it and call it a day. @Lucky_Strikez yes those solutions worked, but then you don't get the music. @Drake Ravenwood after checking your link and researching a bit i tested it, and not only does it help, it is the SOLUTION. With the .dll of Indirect sound in Oblivion folder you can have the music on and graphics setting cranked all the way up. Mind you I am using ati radeon hd5780 from 2009 and im getting 40-60 fps on high and ENBoost on. :D Let me know if it works for you.
