BUG - Can't exit hi-score (!?!)

When the game starts I select CONTINUE... (first play ever).
After GAME OVER, I can't exit high scrore screen: I type in my name and then press RETURN which will position on the "End" button on screen, but pressing return again does nothing. I tried all keys and gamepad buttons on the "End" button, but nothing works so I'm stuck at hi-score screen (!!!??) This is embarassing...

Notice: I did remap Keyboard as follows:
K - Left
L - Right
R - Up
F - Down
RETURN - Buy
X - Fire 1
S - Fire 2
A - Boost
SPACE - Flip

I play in fullscreen 1920x1080.

i7-8750H 32GB RAM, GTX 1070 8GB, 1920x1080 fullscreen mode (144Hz G-Sync screen).

EDIT:
Setting window mode I noticed the game after GAME OVER (and game screen goes black) I have this strange popup error before I enter the hi-score screen:

SOLVED
It's a game bug: you MUST first start at least once normal play (i.e. select FIRST from main menu "Start") and play for a while: this will make the game generate/sync (?) high-score and the above issue will never happen again.

Continue should be ghosted on very first launch.
