Gear Level for Mythic Chests?

Hello. So I've been playing casually for a while, and I finally got a mythic chest through the Pirate Prize system. Yay! A new chest type and hopefully higher level gear. I go to open it and... I can't. You need to be 300+ level-which I am- and need to have a gear level of 5 BILLION. I look and I'm at ~475 million.

I'll admit I have not played with maximum strategy, but still, what am I missing? It seems odd that I can get a chest that I am likely years away from being able to open. It seems weirdly unbalanced. A lot of my gear is stuck at the "need higher rarity to enchant" level, so gear level increases slowly.

Well, this person is 19+B so I suppose with a lot of work you will manage to reach the 5B target

Is not quite odd as also when you first start the game later on you get a chest that you can open it after reaching a certain character level

I got a gear strength of about 18 billion, and I would describe myself as a rather casual player and have not paid any money into the game. Not as hard as it sounds (especially since they introduced a bunch of new heroes since this chest type was included). If you push your gear towards, let's say, level 10 or 11, you should be okay. Don't forget, that your inactive heroes appreciate some love too.
