Please tell me if the game is worth buying now that some reviews are out - Is there really only 23 hours of content with a price tag of $60?
What are your thoughts?
Thank you

Game is good and I recommend it . I played almost 40 hours to finish everything and to tick all icons on the map :)

I love part 1 and buy part 2 instantly. And Im happy. Yes its sometimes repetive but it makes fun. And I have 50 h (without AFK) and im not ready. I need 3 Oryn Tours and a handfull missions to complete. And the 3 min flight. ;)

Fergot. I need also (correct) 4 more weapon modules. ;)

The two best components of the game are its gorgeous world design, especially the southern half, and the freedom of movement offered by the jetpack (after being sufficiently upgraded). Combat is fun and snappy, and is well complemented by the robust movement options mentioned above. On the other hand, the writing is generally a little dry and toothless, and there's too much aimless conversing with repeating character models and voices. The story is serviceable, but it'll most likely fade from your memory shortly after credits roll. As others have mentioned, the beauty of the world is somewhat marred by the maligned Ubisoft-style design, replete with a map brimming with markers leading to repeating content. It can be mentally exhausting to play if you don't pace yourself well - it certainly was for me.

I don't think I'll ever replay it, considering most of my experience was listless, but it's fun to listen to a video essay in the background and fly around the world, now that I've cleared the map of all the junk... err, gork.

If you want mentally exhausting go play FF7 Rebirth. Endless mini-games rinse and repeat Ubi-soft towers to map the world. Mako crystal scans, transmuter chip hunts, etc. over and over again...rinse and repeat for each region. So, repetitive.

This game, you don't need to find any stupid towers to map the world you can just explore. Side activities just involve Gork hunts, enemy bases and two types of jetpack trials. That's it. I chose to do only some of the side trials, maxed out my jetpack upgrades and beat the game just fine. Compared to FF7 Rebirth's 130 hour run. This game at around 30 to 40 hours feels like nothing. I had more fun with this game because there was 'just enough' content. And It actually 'didn't' overstay its welcome.

The story was good. And I really liked the humor and charm of all the Talons Slade interacted with. Also, need to replay this game again, because riding on the giant Gelanta creature anywhere on the map and attacking air bases from 1000 feet in the sky was awesome!

Defenitely. Outcast 2 ist surely not perfect. But it makes a lot of things right, its fun to play the humor is good and I want to play the game again. Defenitely. And I hope part 3 come sometimes (not in 25 years, hopefully much earlier. :)

Also, the game has been patched a lot since release and a lot of problems have been fixed. By time I play this game again it will be a smoother bug free experience as it probably is even now!

Yeah I like the game a lot as well.

Stuff I think the original did better:
  • World building: As in explanation of Talan culture and game mechanics. Not bad in the new beginning, but I think the first Outcast did it a little better. Also liked how in the original there was in-game explanation for basically anything (even saving the game with the "gaamsavv").
  • In the original the enemies got weaker over time by you completing missions for the Talans. While this made fights trivial towards the end, it really gave a good sense of progression. And fights were never my main motivation for playing Outcast anyway. :) Allthough I appreciate that they are much more fun now in Outcast 2
  • To easy fast travel. You can basically teleport anywhere anytime as soon as you activate the Daokas. You don't have to, of course, but since anything interesting is automatically marked on the map anyway, there is little insentive to explore on foot (apart from the beauty of the game world of course)
  • To many repetitive side activities (essence shrines, orym trails, gork corruptions)

Everything else I really like though! Quests are cool and feel purposeful.
I like how you see how it changes the game world if you complete quests.
Graphics are beatiful. Dialogues cool and funny.
Awesome soundtrack!
Fights are so much better in this Outcast than the first one.
I like the weapon modules (allthough some seem useless).
Travelling with Jetpack feels great.
Very good voice actors. Allthough they sound a little to "normal human" and not "alien" enough to me, maybe

Hoping for a 3rd Outcast as well at some point in the future. Keep the same gameworld and fill it with more live and new story, maybe new game mechanics Would be enough for me :D
