Framerate:
-Isn't great (and it was already improved by 2 patches). So no I don't think the optimization is pretty decent atm. Also you're playing in 1080p, right ? It's maybe why you think perfs are "ok".
AI:
-Is almost inexistent during combats, it is probably the biggest problem of this demo.
You can exploit the AI so easily and never die. And I doubt this new game will beat the original one.
We will see at release but lower your expectations if you think this game is going to be that much better in like 17 days.
So no this is not a masterpiece, at least this demo isn't.
Yes, I mentioned the PC settings, I play "only" in full HD with GPU 3060Ti, it seems sufficient. But I understand that at 4K the demo may have different results. I had problems with image tearing. The further south I got in the demo. Note: I play WITHOUT any assistive technology (no DLSS, etc.). Everything on ultra settings (but in full HD resolution).
Combat System: I don't deal with AI. But in general I really enjoy it. Everything is fast, everything works and I see variability in the fights. I'm enjoying the energy shield a lot, combined with the dodges and shooting from high on the glider.
The difficulty of the fights is another matter. The fights are no challenge. None at all. If nothing changes in this regard by March 15th, I will definitely be playing Outcast on the hardest possible difficulty.
I totally agree with you. However, I'm playing Outcast: Second Contact NOW and the enemy AI is 1:1 equal stupid/equal smart. The difference is that the previous game (Second Contact) is outdated and has very clunky, unintuitive combat controls. The combat/flying controls in the demo are perfect, fluid, well connected and really modern in my opinion. Finally.
I use 1440p (2080 8 Go) but not max setttings. Framerate is not consistent enough for a true enjoyable experience compared to other similar games.
I see what you mean about the new combat system, Cutter Slade movements offers more verticality but the AI is just weak even on max difficulty.
I've made a feedback here (multiple posts), where I highligthed some problems about the AI, optimisation and others problems. You can try to replicate these things I've mentionned and see how easy it is to exploit (or even witness some bugs):

Your opinion. I like it in every way.
Masterpiece? I laugh my ass off. The standards are nowadays extremely low. That's gaming in 2024.
The people who call everything a masterpiece are the same ones who line up to call someone a "legend" in the youtube comments of a plump child clumsily whacking himself in the face with a toy light saber, or who are utterly gobsmacked at a tiktok of someone flipping a water bottle upside down.
Wrong. Outcast (the first one) looks and sounds NOTHING like this game.
This is a shameless ripoff of Avatar.
other than (supposedly) 'Avatar' (I haven't played it),
there are almost NO 'open world' free-roaming / jet-pack hovering shooting games,
I barely played a few seconds and know I'll love the game,
and wondering why I didn't hear more of it etc,
All you get nowadays is 'on-rails' (not literally the 'on-rails' games, which are pretty cool), but the linearly designed 'you can't go past these boundaries and limits, just to make sure you're 'safe'' type games,
the game so far seems like a mix between Elex (1) and Earth Defence Force,
both are which some of the best games ever made
I can make this post very long about how rare and hard it is to find 'open-world' free roaming shooting games (especially with 'jet-packs') but we'll leave it at that,
it goes without saying reflexively spouting off " Just Cause " etc doesn't matter because that's a very specialized location and style - there's no fantasy it's 'generic' in it's theme.
Lay off bashing the opening poster he has a definite point, if you don't like his opinion go play your cool games, don't make fun of him,
And for all you smart-buttocks spouting off, " It's just a Clone of Avatar !!1111 "
(Never mind avatar probably cost 100 million to make, so managing to 'copy' it is a feat to itself),
the REAL 'inspiration' for this type of game / gameplay was most likely THIS -->
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1431940/Outwars/
The devs probably played it and loved it 'back in the day',
and thought, "man it would be so cool to combine that kind of gameplay with the RPG story-line of our game ! "
And proceeded to make the game of their 'dreams',
or at least something they'd want to play.
(I also looked at 'Avatar' and other than the premise of being 'open world' there was no similarity in it, and whatever similarity there is is again, a testament to what these devs managed to pull off with 1% of the budget Avatar would've had,
so any attempt to 'make fun' of the game by saying " It's like Avatar " is only a compliment.. )
Anyways anyone checking out Outwars will see obviously that was the 'inspiration' for this game's playstyle,
and AWESOME for them, cause I've been dying to play an 'Outwars' type game for years, (other than the 'wingdiver' in EDF, lol.. )
I also don't understand why there are so many 'haters' in this thread, this thread is for this game,
why are so many people here attacking it? Like seriously we all heard the proverbial,
"don't people have something better to do? ",
but damn, seriously...
