PS4 controllers not supported?

I can't get the game to recognize the PS4 Dpad settings for movement using big picture mode. I have to use that because the default is the stick, but jumping horizontal movement is not really possible with the controller.

The keyboard controls seem wonky in general -- like the defaults have multiple actions bound to a single key.

The engine/framework I'm using has some issues supporting various gamepads/OS combinations..

so I'm looking into using another backend, which handles controllers differently.. have to do some tests first tho, so might push it into the beta branch and ask people to try it out in an announcement on the game page.
