Should I get FoG 2?
I’ve just bought the game and have played maybe four hours on it so far. It’s really enjoyable and I plan on getting the Persia dlc once I finish my current play through. I’m looking for advice on buying FoG 2 for the export battles function. I tried to do the short campaign and can’t wrap my head around why I am losing certain battles , and wonder if using the export battle function would allow me better chances?

You won't be able to use FOG2 for assaults, naval battles or Multiplayer. I've noticed that players who use FOG2 have a completely different set up than I would use with the in-game battle system. So, unless you plan on fighting every single battle for half an hour with FOG2, I don't think you will gain much. Here is a guide I did for the in-game battle system with some general tips. It's fairly easy to master. Good Luck!

To OP:

I believe FoG2 gives another layer of strategy to Empires, however, in my case i first purchased the former and afterwards gor Empires. Like the poster above said, exporting battles and fighting them will take at least 30 mins each time but on the other hand can make a defeat on Empires turn into a victory.

I honestly might buy fog2 for the campaigns built in and follow the guide in that case. It was just for battle -heavy campaigns in empires I was worried. You two have helped me a lot!

FG II and FG Empires is a wonderful thing to have.

I've got both but don't use the battles in FOG2. Personally I find them too slow and a bit dull. I prefer the quicker resolution of the battle in FOGE itself. Personal preference really.
Nice to have the option though.

I own both and do not use FOG2 to resolve battle very often. The main Empires campaign is very long, so there are hundreds of battles to be resolved. They can become repetitious. Don't get me wrong, it is a wonderful thing. You might want to up the Empires difficulty level if you plan on resolving battles with FOG2 because terrain frontage is not considered in FOG2 battles.

I'm happy building my nation slowly, region by region, so at the moment after using the In Game battle system for my 'trial' games, I'm now using FoG II for every battle and thoroughly enjoying it! I have played the FoG II system many times before though, and it's an entire game to learn in itself. If you don't want the complexity of learning two games and battles taking 30 minutes to an hour plus, stick with the in game battle engine. If you really want to immerse yourself as Grand Strategist and Grand Tactitian, buy FoG II. It's a great tabletop wargame simulator (in my view).

Nice to see people still enjoying both games !

If you want to support further Empires and the game after it, a tiny Steam Review is always appreciated (and helpful) ;-)
