Error code 51? Cannot start application

Usually this error is caused by an interference of an Internet security program with Steam client and the game.

Had this problem inexplicably yesterday with FOG2 and Pike & shot. Had been working for past couple of years. No updates to create conflict over last week. Restarted and is now fine.
