You don't NEED to export battles to FOG 2 to resolve them. But you have the OPTION to do so if you have FoG 2 and want to spend and extra 30 minutes+ fighting a battle that would otherwise take about a minute to resolve.
It will definitely be a hassle to do so too but for us FoG 2 fans, it is worth the effort to do so. This is the FoG 2 campaign system we have been waiting for. Otherwise you can just watch the battle play out in the game itself as we will all do 90%+ of the time.
Thanks but I should slightly correct that. #1 and #2 are the same thing, it i just that you can opt to skip #2 and see just the end result (which is your option #1). Also you don't place units manually, your deployment depends on the frontage (width of the battlefield based on terrain) and the composition of your army (what types of units you have and how many).
We are in Europe so it is early morning for us. :) It will not unlock for at least a few hours more.
So they made it so and for those who already own FOG II it meant that they could buy FOG E and play out all or some of the battles in FOG II which was nice.
Controlling your army in FOG E exists only because FOG II exists, it seems likely to me that in the future the two companies could create a game that has everything under the one roof but for the moment two roofs will have to do.
Differences are far more than that.
FoG2 is quite the grognard heavy wargamer simulation of tactical battles.
I like it.
I find it quite difficult though. Positioning and terrain are extremely important, as is morale etc.
The battle system in FoG: Empires seems very much simplified in comparison.
its not actually, bring the wrong army to the wrong battle and you'll get a beating. Just it places the focus on army creation rather than tactical skill with FoG2
I’d say they are maybe more simple, but ageod are not simplified when it comes to combat in any of their games. Their games always do a great job of simulating warfare and keeping the randomness and luck elements of real warfare whilst still being fun and strategic. But like others have said, this is a bonus, not a major feature, if you feel it should be then maybe best stick with TW tbh, this game looks amazing without FOG2 compatibility imo.

i understand from the begining but you repeat the same thing as the predecessor and still go to the same point as i said early, .seriusly what was hard to turn ON battle in the engine coding . im sorry but is a pure lure to grab fog2 for those who dont have it , can you imagine i need to switch game from warhammer 1 to warhammer 3 total war just to play a specific race battle manualy . anyway 40$ for a visual simulator .is like romance of the three kingdoms and let the ai do the job ,big strategy genie in here.have fun
