Touhou 7 Perfect Cherry Blossom is a very good starting point for beginners. It has a barrier mechanic that allows you to take a hit without dying that will be great for newcomers who are trying to learn the game. However, the two EX bosses of that game will definitely be a challenge. This is the only game I have been able to beat on Hard and Lunatic and beat one of the EX bosses. As for finding a place to download that game, I agree that it would probably be hard if you do not have a physical copy. I could look around, but I am not sure I will have much luck myself.

most of them have difficulty levels you start on easy and go up to impossible, thats usually how it goes anyways
