I beleive though if you buy this on GOG.com you get this version as well as the original DOS version.
Any ways, yes great game, give it a shot!
Fun = kicking decapitated zombie heads and running in the showers of blood that issue from them. Throwing bundles of TNT into a group of cultists and watching the town turn red. Split screen multiplayer so you can blast through it all with friends.
Easy = as you want it to be. The best feature of this version is 'Made to Order' difficulty, which lets you tweak every aspect of the game from damage taken to enemy aggression. My favourite way to play is with enemy health on low, enemy count on maximum, and all cultist aggression set to low.
Good for modern PC = yes, it works fine on laptop integrated graphics cards but has some extra features like Ambient Occlusion if you have a more powerful machine. Native controller support and plays great with an Xbox controller.
The Steam version has cloud saves, which helps if you play on multiple devices. Otherwise the GOG version has the original DOS files, which you need if you want to play with a source port like Raze, and doesn't come with the Steam version.
Comparing to the other Build Engine games it is the best, but the public didn't think so when it released. Duke Nukem 3D got all the praise, but this game got a cult following then as now. I like it the best and it is still one my favorite games.
You can also learn the Map Editor and create your own multiplayer or singleplayer maps, once you learn that its great fun. Plenty of manuals around still, for Blood alone. But it can be a hassle to set it up. Easier with DN3D but again, that game still gets all the praise so there are better ports around to enhance the experience. I don't think Blood's source code was ever released so it is more difficult to make better ports and that counts for both the game and the Map Editor.
I can only highly recommend getting Blood.
