Absolutely buggy mess so far (Vulkan + kexengine.cfg)
All I've been trying to do is get this bloody game to work, excuse the pun. I change the graphics mode to Vulkan, I get this error. https://imgur.com/a/NwNDxyg I was only able to take the screenshot because I hovered over the app to get the window, when I hit apply on the settings it closed out the window completely only leaving the taskbar icon.

On top of that, when i tried looking for kexengine.cfg, it didn't even exist in the %appdata%/Nightdive Studios/Blood EX folder. I tried reinstalling, I tried looking at the folder while the game is open, I tried clearing steam download cache and completely reinstalling, and nothing brought back that file.

That one file being missing from the folder probably caused the vulkan error but I'm not completely sure. I've been trying to get vulkan to work for ages and now it does for me, I tried doom 64 and gzdoom and it worked grand, but then this just doesn't want to.
The real question is how in god's name did the game run without that cfg file? That's like the game playing sound without the OpenAL or fluidsynth files.

google Nblood source port or Nblood port and play that version.

It can be also GPU driver btw.

My GPU drivers are fine, I've fixed everything that was or could be an issue. I'm able to run Vulkan, Doom 64 and Quake both have kexengine cfg files and work well in Vulkan. So if there's no real answer atm, the only think I can think is the game is straight broken.

Nightdive are the developers of this port

But they don't own the game. Their license expired and they can't update the game without Atari's permission.

But Atari took it from their hands pretty quickly

Note that im not excusing atari at all for their part of this mess. but i dont see how they can take the blame for the technical issues or by a straight up mediocre Port. On the positive side, Luckly we have other ports

When the publisher rushes the dev, already happened to Blood 2 :P
So what source port then? Nblood? BuildGDX/BloodGDX? Raze? Oh and which ones support vulkan, or at least directx

They're software/OpenGL IIRC

as with new quake port, vulkan is causing a lot of issues. any problem i had with blood and quake was because of vulkan on my older hardware. at least with blood you can choose directx or opengl in settings, its not that easy in kex-quake though.

Yeah after I said that I tried the quake remaster again and yeah with kex there does seem to be a performance hit with vulkan. It sucks when I thought it would be overall better than opengl and directx but hey at least we know. I've been getting legit like average 40fps with vulkan, but I'll need to see what d3d11 will be like.
