Difficulty To Start On?
I'm a pretty hardcore FPS fan. I can do Godlike on UT2K4, Unreal on Unreal, UV on DOOM and Nightmare on Quake, but this game seems to be kicking my butt pretty hard on the second hardest difficulty. Which difficulty would you recommend for me?

You're better off using the custom difficulty and making some adjustments. The default Blood difficulty levels are either too easy or too hard. The latter difficulties give the cultists instantly accurate hitscan weapons which means exact memorization of enemy placement is necessary..... Not really my idea of fun.

After much trial and error the following settings seemed to be challenging whilst still leaving the fun intact. Most importantly it removes the uber accurate cultist accuracy.

Player damage scale on high (medium if you need more leeway)
Enemy damage scale on low.
Enemy amount on very high.
All Cultist aggressions and weapon accuracies on low.

All other settings on medium (default).

Hope this helps.

Blood's difficulty jumps a whole lot on Well Done and above, hitscan is out of control and cultists throw packs of dynamite.
I'd play the new custom difficulty and put maximum enemy counts with a difficulty that's fun and doesn't feel broken, or something along that line.

Lightly Broiled is everyone's go to "Standard" difficulty mode but if you want a challenge do Well Done. Anything above Well Done is downright ridiculous and damn near impossible.

Thanks, yeah, I'm finding I'm getting obliterated by how quick the reaction times of cultists are. Also the zombie getting up again thing seems unpredictable at the moment and is annoying as hell, but I guess that's just the game, and I'm sure I'll learn when they're really dead by hearing a sound effect or something, I just haven't noticed yet.
What would you think is reasonable challenge for the attacks and stuff? I'm not sure how these really effect gameplay, and with all the options I don't want to find out half through the game when a new enemy's introduced that's wayyy too hard.

Thanks mate, I'll have a quick try and see if Well Done is alright for me.

Play Lightly Broiled until you get a feel for the game and its mechanics, I guess it would be like playing Doom on Ultra Violence, pretty standard difficulty still poses a decent challenge.

Lightly Broiled is fun.

Well Done is quite challenging. But I think you should pick this one.

Extra Crispy is unfair and definitely not for the first or even the second time you play the game. You have to memorize enemy locations and need to know all secrets to get extra health, armor and ammo.

Well Done would be my recommendation. Also, this version also has a welcome custom difficulty setting.
Thanks guys

I second that, sorta. I like the enemy count of WD but the hitscan is a bit atrocious, so I think Lightly Broiled is still the way to go for a very first playthrough, even if you're a hardcore FPS fan. I played all the things you mentioned and I didn't enjoy WD to start with.

Lemme put it this way: It was fun but the fun to frustration ratio was too low :D

I've played the first level about 4 times now and up to the carnival about 3 times testing out the difficulties and I'm settled on Well Done. Well Done's fun but just gets annoying when cultists are around every corner and yet instantly fire and hit you when they see you and do 20 damage with a single bullet. Lightly Broiled is surprisingly still fairly difficult, even though the cultists seem to do less than half the damage and have far less accuracy. Although I hope I don't regret this later since apparently the later episodes are easier.

Well Done is imo, the core of what Blood is about... but it can be unforgiving without knowing the maps and enemy layouts. I'd still start there though and if its just too brutal and you don't want to save scum to get through it, try it on lightly broiled. It's still damn tough.

I honestly do think that Blood is one of the hardest fps games and level knowledge and experience are the only ways to not die over and over or rely on quicksaves. Extra crispy is a joke though and not worth it at all. redic

They're death scream is louder and sounds a lot like YAOW, versus the regular "oh" sound they make when they fall down.

Definitely "Lightly broiled" It feels like the most well balanced difficulty, I found "pink on the inside" to be too easy and only ever died to insta-kill traps, and had near infinite ammo and health/armor. Well done on the other hand was absurdly difficult. (mainly due to hitscan gun wielding enemies) Lightly broiled on the other hand felt challenging but fair.

And mind you I'm also a hardcore FPS player that grew up on games like Duke Nukem 3D/Shadow Warrior etc, so this is the type of game I excel at. (Even if I am getting up there in years now, with slowing reflexes.)
