Blood: Fresh Supply

Blood: Fresh Supply

This or original?
During the sale there is a 5€ difference between the old and new version.
Why should I buy the new one? Why is the new one better? 5€ is quite a difference.

It's a kinda complicated question but here's my overall impressions on the various ports:

- When it comes to presentation Fresh Supply is the clear winner out of the bunch. The colors are accurate, the added AA and ambient occlusion is neat and overall it's just very close to the DOS original. BloodGDX has inaccurate colors + NBlood's brightness / color options are not exactly great so even though in that port the colors are accurate it might look a bit overbright and colorless compared to FS and DOS.

- In rendering quality Fresh Supply wins again. Both BloodGDX and NBlood have a sort of outdated OpenGL renderer that can have problems with frame pacing and screen tearing so the game is just not as smooth as a modern game. When it comes to raw performance BGDX and NBlood offers more + they run on toasters never meant to be used as gaming machines but FS is more consistent and offers newer renderers like DirectX 11 and Vulkan.

- Controls: Fresh Supply wins again. FS just has better aiming than the other ports, mouse movement is snappy and more accurate while BGDX and NBlood can have the feeling of "negative mouse acceleration" while playing. On top of this since FS is not running on the Build Engine the original game's hit detection issues are fully fixed.

- Accuracy to the DOS version: here NBlood seems to be the best with BloodGDX being a close second (inaccurate colors). A lot of FS's inaccuracies were patched out but there are still a few noticeable issues left.

- Added features: FS is the best. The added powerup timers are great and the customizable difficulty option adds a lot of replay value. BloodGDX has custom difficulty settings too but in FS you can change a lot more things.

- User friendliness / modding: both FS and BloodGDX are very easy to use mods with but FS has a built in addon manager that lets you switch between mods on the fly. NBlood can be more complicated since it's based on EDuke32 and when it comes to setting up mods ED32 was always quite bad with its weird con ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and an "autoload" feature that's autoload in name only.

- System requirements: FS is built around KEX, an engine more modern and more demanding than Build so you actually need a relatively good machine to run it without issues. BloodGDX runs on a toaster but it needs Java, that's a bit of a downer so NBlood is the lightest Blood port.

- Time to save: I only put this here because it can take a ridiculous amount of time to save your game in FS. The engine is handling saving quite badly, it needs both a fast CPU and fast storage so if you don't have an SSD and your CPU is on the weaker side you might get ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Overall if you don't mind the remaining inaccuracies (at this point they don't really affect the minute-to-minute gameplay) and your machine can handle it then FS is the best version of Blood.

There is no answer there.
The only one is that it has multiplayer.

Deduction?

People suggest for now to buy original and run the game files with a fan-made software called NBlood, that is more accurate and works better than FS _atm_

But what is the actual point of Fresh Supply? If there are literarly no differences then why did they even release it?

Very good question

It mostly works but lacks some features

Also the work started before NBlood was released and BloodGDX was at the time the thingy but not so accurate (especially with physical puzzles)

It feels it's been released too early but mostly works; if you never played Blood you'll find it perfectly OK though

Yeah but again, if there is no difference and I can jsut mod the old version why bother with the 5€ difference?

List of differences (perhaps incomplete): https://steamcommunity.com/app/1010750/discussions/0/1644292444647662838/

Can't tell between DOS and NBlood, there surely are a few

There will always be some differences because the original source code is probably lost (or surely?) though

Ok so Ive heard there is 3D rendering in this one so the textures arent weird when youre looking around.
is this in source port as well? or an entirely new thing that mods cant do?

I see you are totally confused so I will help: Buy the original because it is cheaper and download the free and open source NBlood port so you can play it. It gives better performance than DOSBOX, especially on larger resolutions. That's all.

Thank you. Does the port also include 3D rendering like Fresh Supply?

Thank you very much then. I shall refund this heresy because why would I willingly lose 5 euro.
Why would they release this, though??

For money. By the way if you already have the files, you don't even have to buy the other version anymore. Just copy the files elsewhere before refund. Ha-ha.

Yeah but I just want it on my Steam account. I can torrent it anyday.

I think the GOG version comes with One Whole Unit Blood, alongside Blood Fresh Supply, so that way you get the best of both worlds.
