Confusion with relationships

I guess I messed up completely just checked the status with the bachelorettes in town

- I wanted to try dating with Caecili (100 relationship status) but she keeps rejecting the MC.
So bothering her more about a date feels uncomfortable now.

- Mei (30 relationship status) is my girlfriend??? How did that even happen? (Guess I gave the wrong answers during the cake event but seriously she is the least interesting one of them all so I was not even trying.)
And I had no idea the MC suddenly turned her boyfriend.

And just now I had an argument with Fiona? (50 relationship status) Because she is jealous??? Wait whut? o_O Since when is she even my girlfriend, either???

Well, different girls have different ideals. Mai is easy going, simple minded and is easily satisfied as long as you show great interests in her food. Afterall, you tried every single dish in her restaurant, went out with her for a walk on the bridge and even accepted her invitation to test out her special cake and then spent time with her at the restaurant after that. So, in her mind, you are already her boyfriend.

Caecily is a totally different situation. She spoke to you only because you help her to free her mentor Griffis and help her to kill Orosius. But that does not mean that she is interested in a relationship with you at all. Afterall, she is a Ritualist and like the academic type. She is really looking for a Scholar and you are not her type. Did you pay attention to the fact that she likes to enjoy scenery each morning at the bridge. She does not like people interrupting her while she enjoy the ambience and beauty of the morning, and if you interrupt her or talk about relationship, it will only make her feel uncomfortable and leave. Did you notice that every morning there is also another academic from Kalmarus that is on the other end of the bridge looking at the same sceneary as well.The other guy's name is called Philip and is also a secret admirer of Caceily as well. They went to the Mage Academy together and are both interested in magical researches. Philip is also an admirer of Caecily's mentor, Griffis too. Both Philip and Caecily has actually a lot of interest in common and a lot of conversation to talk about. However, for now, both of them are just contented to look the morning scenery at the bridge and glance at each other once in a while. They are actually bonding, while you are trying to interrupt.

I am just an observer and can see the overall picture a lot clearer. If you don't interrupt them, Philip will eventually marry Caecily and then unlock his secret class as a Scholar with a whole lot of powerful, high damage AoE spells. He will also move in with Caecily at her home and Griffis will move out as well. The hand of fate works in mysterious ways in this game.

The romances are the worst part of the game. They are just weird and with little thought. Only a few side romances like the one that Jargonaut said of Philip and Caecily make sense. But even so unfortunately I believe it still needs player input so that they get together.

I am just wondering who else is MCs girlfriend by accident now x_x
And why did I get love advice in game to talk with Caecili on the bridge, if that is the worst I can do for a relationship with her?

By accident I think almost all of them hahaha. I mean, unless you take stupid choices borderline trolling I don't think you will fail any romance at all.
