Changeling

Changeling

Guide
It's killing me :neon_sad: I need to play through all endings, preferably bad ones first. If I got it right you sent an official guide to your backers. When the game is long with lots of choices and a really complicated system of achieving all endings, I sometimes see devs sell the walkthrough as dlc, for example. I'm def ready to buy it. Please!!! If you don't plan upgrading your steam guide here, maybe you'll be willing to share it like this.

Мизантроп,

Unfortunately we promised the guide to the backers an exclusive reward - which is something I don't feel right about retracting at this point. While some backers have indicated they don't mind us making it available to everyone, it's not going to be possible to get the okay from everyone.

I realize now that it was quite short sighted of me to promise the guide as an exclusive but I honestly did not realize so many people would be interested in it. So that's a lesson learned.

I have been hoping there would be some community guides started by now but of course, the game is long - and no one is obligated to make one.

The reason I did a good-end only guide is because I hoped it would be a suitable compromise between making some kind of guide available to everyone while keeping my promise of exclusivity to our backers.

If you tell me what endings you're wanting to achieve, I can try to help you with some tips.

Generally speaking the friend ending is the easiest one, and the romance ending is the second easiest. Most people will get the friend ending or the romance ending of each route on the first few people.

Aside from a couple of them, the bad endings are not that easy to stumble into and most people actually have to be actively trying.

As I said, I can give you pointers on specific ones while I look into ways to solve the walkthrough drought we're having! LoL
I'm sorry but I don't understand. They paid to get the guide, I'm ready to do the same. Why would it be an issue for your backers if you started selling dlc? But ok, as you say. That's frustrating but... I guess I'll have to wait for some community guides before finishing the game( Sorry for my whining, of course you are not oblidged to do anything walkthrough related((

Мизантроп ,

The issue really comes down to how the guide was advertised. It was advertised as something that would be released to backers only.

The wording from the Kickstarter campaign:

"And an exclusive backer-only official game walk-through that won't be released or published anywhere else."

Having said the guide won't be released or published anywhere else, I feel it would be dishonest of me and unfair to my backers to go back on my word and, in fact, publish the guide elsewhere for other people to purchase.

It is frustrating, I agree. And I wish I had thought ahead properly and had not made something like a guide something exclusive!

And don't worry - I don't consider this whining. I genuinely feel bad that I didn't think things through when I was running the campaign. I am going to try to come up with a solution somehow. Thanks so much for your patience.

oh, ok. I see. Thank you for your time and such detailed answers! :mgh_17:

Eshberry, could you please point me out how to get one of Ewan's CGs - first one in second row? Maybe a general hint where to look))
Eshberry  [developer] Feb 7, 2019 @ 1:11pm
Shera - This is a CG related to one of his bad endings. Ewan's bad endings are some of the more complicated ones to get since a lot of them are really dependent on your companions at the end of the game.

There is now a guide up for all his non-romantic endings. My plan was to test the guides today to make sure they're at least accurate enough to get the endings they are for! That CG should be for the ending "The Unseelie" so hopefully the guide is accurate!
:happyheart: I'm happy now!!! Thank you for the guide, whoever did it! So excited to play through all bad endings! :47_thumb_up: :perfect_logo:

Thank you! I checked the guide for that ending - it worked!

The guides were a joint effort, but we're very glad they're helping people! <3

This is getting really frustrating. Three routes and I haven't gotten a single end I was after. I have even gone back through saves and retried. At this point I am wondering if it would be best to stop playing for a few months. I have played many of these and am not sure why I am having so much trouble with this one. Any suggestions? Thanks for any response in advance.

Stupid me, I just looked at the guides section.... I did manage to get Alfred's ending, um...scary. Going back again I think the reason I am having such a difficult time on my own is the huge amount of choices in this game. I almost want to go back and count.
Eshberry  [developer] Feb 18, 2019 @ 7:39pm
There are 306 choices across all routes, I believe. Most of the routes have somewhere between 35-45 if I recall (though I'd have to go back to check my spread sheets).

Deciding how many choices to include was really tricky, actually. And early on, we were told we needed *more* than what we already have. I never considered that we had too many, to be honest. But when I think about it, I do feel like most games I've played probably don't have as many choices over all. So we may have...gone overboard? LoL

It makes me wonder what a "standard" amount of choices for an otome route in a game about this size actually is. That would probably be useful information to have for our next project. I need to start counting! OxO;

Sorry to hear you're having trouble though. D= We tried phrase choices (where possible) so that they're move intuitive but it can be difficult when all the LIs have different things they look for (Elliot likes to be relied on and affirmed, Marc likes to be snarked at and not relied on as much, etc.)

If you ever need help, please feel free to give me a poke! You can send an email to us or post here - we're always willing to help people out.

Hope you have an easier time going forward and are still able to enjoy the game. ;A;

Thank you, I am using the guide. I had misunderstood one of your first posts.
By the way, the typical number of choices in the many I have read is two per chapter, sometimes three. A few only have one per chapter. What really amazes me is that after having gone through three routes and a few tries, I found one tiny typo. How did you manage to clean up something this complex? Impressive.
Eshberry  [developer] Feb 18, 2019 @ 10:29pm
I think we have between 4-6 choices per chapter - partially because I really wanted to increase replayability by increasing the number of scenarios. And also because it is such a long game that I didn't want it to just be hours of reading with very few choices. But I honestly didn't consider how it could make the routes harder - though that makes sense for sure!

Anyway, there are definitely more typos than that! A very nice person sent us a bunch so we can correct them and update at some point! OwO

But we did have some really, really awesome and dedicated beta readers/testers who found a *lot* of them. They are seriously amazing! OwO
