Proxima should not be required for PvE (honestly it shouldn't be there in PvP either since it's probably a rootkit)
Co-op doesn't need anti-cheat. And I'm not going to install an anti-cheat app that has pretty much no google hits - that's a bit suspicious, especially given most anti-cheat is a rootkit.

I was interested in the game, but I'm not going to give system-level access to a game just to play a demo, and likely won't pick it up on release if this is still present.

I dig the idea of this game, but that's two massive red flags before I even get in game... no thanks

every anti-cheat (that works) is a rootkit... how else would it be able to check for cheating??

this post is in every game with anti-cheat and its the dumbest ♥♥♥♥

I understand the concern over software security for your system, but the anti-cheat is necessary to help prevent hackers in the game.

Would you like to see a player flying across the map and killing everything with one shot and ruining your cooperative play experience? that's what anti-cheats are for :steamfacepalm:

This was concerning to me as well, a game opening regedit with admin permissions is sketchy as hell.

This is unnecessary if you exclusively play PvE and exclusively with people you know. I am not worried about my friends cheating. If they did, I'd tell them either stop or I'd stop playing with them.

You could make it only necessary on public games.

YEP!
At least I am not the only one thinking this is too sus.
Weird anticheat (never heard off). Wants to open regedit.

It gives you an error even when you just wait at the UAC popup for installing that weird "anticheat".

TOO SUS.

I understand your concerns and have asked the devs about the anti-cheat system. This anti-cheat system is safe and they use the industry standard. It's also passed all compliance test in multiple countries all over the world.

No "industry-standard" anti-cheat software has to make registry edits in order to function. Find one that's user-agreeable or lose players over wanting basic security assurance on their own machines when using your product.

It's almost guaranteed if this game picks up, it'll be picked apart by the community for having such requirements.

Just look at how much stuff they are collecting and doing, then just avoid the game.
"This Game has been developed by Proxima Beta Pte. Limited, a member of the Tencent group (“we”, “us”, “our”).", so you know how bad the anti cheat is.

Yup, so this registry edit issue has been reported to the devs and they are investigating why this happens.

The only thing that comes up for me when I search Proxima is ransomware
Indoor Astronaut Jun 23, 2023 @ 3:01am
Go to your regedit and look for any recent entries and / or CTRL+F for Proxima and delete this ♥♥♥♥, trace data can easily be found with "everything". And monitor out / ingoing connections once everything is done.

This is not the first free to play ♥♥♥♥ fest that has done this and it won't be the last.
Also: Why does this game have so many stolen sounds? One even from Warcraft 3's Menu?!
This truly is sketchy as ♥♥♥♥! At least we have another prime example why using VM's, containers or other alternatives are a good idea when something seems "too good of an asking price" for software.
