Is there a hint in-game somewhere about the basement lazer code?

I was able to find the correct code online and how it ties to a specific location in the woods, but is there an actual hint for this in-game somewhere? Did a miss a note or something?

I don't understand how I was supposed to make the connection.

You would have to look at the 4 grave stones that are lined up next to each other in the graveyard in woods. I realized that after remembering all the people had 8 I believe in their age, I just did it now. The game has horrible "hints" aka I am stuck where the game is just telling me get all the chips for the basement doors. Like thanks game, your so helpful.
