That being said 5 was great and I enjoyed it more than 4.1 overall soooooo grab it if you will. Perhaps it'll go on sale around the release of 6?
Just a bit concerned that 5 is a long game, so not sure if I will have enough time to finish it before 6 comes out :/
But if 6 is a continuation of 5 and it is advised to play 5 first, then i might get 5 haha
Its just the matter of if I will finish it before 6 comes out or should I just skip 5 directly to 6 haha

I have insane amounts of armor(25-40k per class) because of those and I have only had edf5 for about 10 days. I am trying to get it mostly completed before 6 comes out and it will be a day one purchase.
5 is easy to beat in 2 days. It's a very short game if you're just doing a single story run.
Be aware 100% completion is *hella* long as you need to play through the 116 or so missions 3 times for each class (Hard, Hardest, Inferno), and an entire run with an effective team is easily 20+ hours
There really isn't a lot to the story beyond missing out on tons of good meme worthy moments and songs. They might not hit the same though if you're not hunkering down on hard or inferno with online strangers you have gelled with through mutual brotherhood against armed alien oppression.
Much like the movie "The Thing" by John Carpenter the aliens have evolved to look just like us, so having brothers in arms you can trust is massively important in EDF.
I also think that the way EDF is each title isn't such a huge leap that you'd miss that much in the differences between 5 and 6.
However 5 is certainly a gem of a game and I recommend it to nearly everyone I know that has any game interest at all.
