Gameplay-Changing Mods: Anyone Tried them? How are they?
I recently found out that EDF 5 has a variety of mods available. The selection is very slight compared to, say, Skyrim, but I was surprised to see a game with such a noteworthy online component having mods at all. Some are purely cosmetic, like High-Visibility Item Drops, and others are simple changes like collecting all crates automatically at mission end or allowing you to disable online weapon limits on a per-mission basis after you've beaten it for the first time without that 70% completion. Curiously, though, there are also a few weapon packs, buffs to allied soldiers, a new difficulty, and even one called Missions Content Changer which redoes every single mission with new and more enemies, more allies, and what appear to be more enemy types like a stronger Erginus, massive flying drones the size of dropships, and neon blue ants. (Disclaimer: I have not played the DLCs so maybe some of these enemies were already included, but the mod explicitly advertises new enemies). The mod even supports multiplayer if all players have the mod installed.

Everything I just said applies to the previous game, 4.1, as well, down to the specific high-visibility item drops and a mod called Missions Content Changer from the very same user. Having said that, EDF 5 has more weapon mods, and 4.1 contains an intriguing "play as aliens" mod. I consider 5 to have the superior gameplay in almost every way, however, so its mods interest me more.

Has anyone tried these out? I'm really curious what they're like. If they interest you, you can check them out at the below links (I originally had every mod I mentioned linked individually but the post vanished X_X and I didn't feel like carefully linking them all, so here's the Nexus pages for each game. The mods are few enough that it should be no trouble finding each I mentioned above on your own.)

I've found Steam to be kind of annoying when it comes to inserting urls. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The above is only EDF 5. For 4.1, see here: https://www.nexusmods.com/earthdefenseforce41theshadowofnewdespair/mods/

One thing that I would like to know is how to go about installing mods for EDF 5. Nexusmods doesn't seem to have a guide for that part.
all you just do it drag the mod folder in the game that is beside most of them have a text guide any way but you do need the mod loader first tho
i mostly use the npc mod so far because solo play tho but i dont recomend using npc on online tho they tend to cause the npc to die faster then normal but keep the damage changes as long as you have control of that team and some time even crash the game

Okay, mod loader. Where do I find it? It doesn't seem to be on Nexus Mods.

It appears to be this[github.com].

Right, downloaded. Now what do I do with it? Do I just drop it into Steam's EDF folder?

Apologies, but I really don't know my way around these systems very well.

From the mod loader's instructions:

> To install, unpack EDFModLoader.zip into the folder where either EDF41.exe or EDF5.exe resides.
Plugins are included in the additional Plugins package for the respective game.

Steam's default install location for games is C:/Program Files / steam / steamapps / common / (game in question), but it can vary. To find out where this is for your system, go into the properties of EDF 5 from Steam and browse its location.

To "unpack" the loader, you can use right click -> extract all, or you can use a dedicated program (I like WinRAR). Select the folder that EDF 5.exe is in.

I think you will want the plugins package as well. From what I can tell, everything should be in a folder called "Mods". I am about to test with the armor crate recoloring mod, since that is is simple, unobtrusive, and immediately obvious if it is working.
