but if you do buy it, do give multiplayer a chance. even with randoms, the ones i meet usually are friendly and play seriously.
Honestly, my experience in playing with randoms is never bad.
It's a big deal in the long run for deciding to do a replay with another class.
Hardest+ is an unlock in 5 for a reason, as they also polished up the drop tables to be more distinct. So now Hard drops are actually reasonable for Hard (Normal is still mostly awkward prototypes). While EDF5 Hardest has big boy guns at minimum for drops, rather than 4.1's "Hardest has a chance to drop level zero guns all the way to mission 40." maximum RNG.
I still love 4.1, but overall 5 is a net gain even if there are some aspects I miss.
I've seen many instances where we were down to the last person. Sometimes it was me, sometimes it was another player. Struggling to survive, they manage to rez their party (you use up 1/2 your current health to do so), and together you manage to clear that mission. It's really satisfying to see that sometimes.
Just a heads up though, if you play online by yourself, the enemy health modifier is 3x their normal health, just as if you were in a full group of 4 people. The reasoning behind that is because they don't want you playing solo in the online games.
Until you unlock 70%, you're also stuck with level/hp limitations, so you can only use weapons that are normally appropriate for that mission, but again, with the enemy having triple health, you'll either die a lot, or spend much more time beating the mission by yourself than usual. So that's the only real benefit playing offline has over online for now.
Oddly enough, if 2-3 people are playing, then the health modifier is only 2x. So if possible try to play online with at least 1 other person.
Solo online with limiters off, its like offline solo but better
Thanks for the replies again
I started playing this game series with 4.1 here on Steam. I very rarely play any games online with others so I will always go for the single player experience. That's exactly what I've done with the EDF games and they're extremely fun games. Some missions do come across as being more designed for multiple people, such as throwing like 50 enemies on you all at once and they're all attacking you since you're the only person. But with a little bit of strategy and abusing the AI, you can still get past those missions.
I would say the advantage of playing solo is you get to have fun with the AI squad mates. Listening to the story that's unfolding around you, interacting with them through emotes and stuff. The solo experience is definitely quite enjoyable. Don't let people convince you that these games are mandatory to play online. I would recommend though that you definitely wait for a sale, because you're clearly not sure if you will like these kind of games so you may as well take the plunge without spending too much money.
Thats the awnser I was looking for mate, you made it much clear.
Thanks, like I said before I will look for some sale!
